Kanye “Ye” West Finds Buyer for Gutted Malibu House

As a longtime fan who’s witnessed Kanye West’s meteoric rise and subsequent tumultuous journey, I must say this latest news of his Malibu home sale is both intriguing and somewhat predictable. The man has always had an eye for architectural marvels, but his knack for dramatic transformation, whether in music or design, often leaves us scratching our heads.

Kanye “Ye” West has successfully sold his extensively renovated, yet seemingly unoccupied, beachfront property in Malibu to a new owner.

Over the weekend, I got wind that the house I’ve been eyeing – the one exclusively handled by Jason Oppenheim from the Oppenheim Group – has gone into escrow.

The property transaction occurred over half a year following when the contentious musician and fashion designer first discreetly put it up for sale in December 2023. Originally, he had priced it at $53 million, but later reduced it to $39 million in April.

Following my acquisition of Tadao Ando’s Pritzker Prize-winning residence in late 2021 for a staggering $57.3 million, I embarked on an extensive overhaul, stripping down every interior element. Previously, Oppenheim had mentioned that the new owner would have to invest several million dollars to redesign the interior space.

The star from “Selling Sunset” commented that the property lacked proper interior design at the time. She mentioned the price was set lower due to the necessity of updating the interior finishes. However, she noted optimistically that it could be upgraded to meet 2024 standards since it was built approximately a decade ago.

Nonetheless, Oppenheim observed that the structure’s exterior, made primarily of concrete, has been preserved: “Today, the architectural authenticity of Tadao Ando’s design remains. He is widely recognized for his concrete architecture, and a substantial portion of this house’s cost goes towards its intricate concrete work.”

Apart from its current challenges, the house in question had previously encountered legal issues. Prior to being put up for sale, the property owner, West, was sued by a contractor named Tony Saxon who undertook a major renovation of the house. He alleged that he was owed over $1 million by West for his services, alongside other accusations.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, it was stated that the house in question was not being sold, contrary to the allegations presented in the lawsuit.

In January, Ron Zambrano, from West Coast Employment Lawyers, filed a mechanics lien on the property, acting for Saxon. He stated, “We aim to ensure he has enough funds to repay the over $1 million still owed to our client, before he faces bankruptcy.” Essentially, this means that if anyone intends to purchase Kanye’s Malibu residence, they must first address our claim. The sale cannot be completed without Tony being compensated.

I’m head over heels for this stunning four-bedroom coastal abode on Malibu Road! From each and every room, I can bask in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Adding to its charm, it boasts approximately 1,500 square feet of outdoor decks to fully embrace the oceanic beauty that surrounds it, all spanning around 4,000 square feet indoors.
