Having spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds filled with complex characters and intriguing plots, the prospect of witnessing their live performance is akin to upgrading from 8-bit graphics to high-definition cinematics.
Lily Collins is set to say goodbye to Paris and team up with Álvaro Morte for their first appearances on the West End stage in London, as they star in ‘Barcelona’ together.
The actress who plays Emily in Paris will appear alongside Morte in Bess Wohl’s critically acclaimed two-character play, Barcelona, at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre from October 21st to January 11th, 2025.
As a seasoned theater-goer with a penchant for thought-provoking plays that push boundaries, I am eager to delve into the captivating world of “The Shivering Truth,” directed by Lynette Linton and written by the talented Wohl. Given my past experiences with their works, I anticipate a riveting tale filled with humor, danger, and intrigue. The plot, set in a Spanish city, revolves around an American woman embarking on a bachelorette weekend who finds herself entangled in a dangerous one-night stand with a dashing Spaniard. The twist, as the synopsis suggests, is that this seemingly romantic encounter takes an unexpected turn into a complex game of cat and mouse. I can’t wait to witness the transformation of her fantasy into a tangled web of emotions and actions, all while enjoying Linton’s masterful direction and Wohl’s compelling narrative.
In this production, Collins portrays the role of Irene, an American character, while Morte takes on the character of Manuel, a Spanish individual.
“For years, it’s been my childhood dream to grace the West End stage, and now, I’m thrilled beyond words to embark on my first stage appearance in Bess’ captivating play titled Barcelona. The moment I completed reading the script, I knew that I had to portray Irene.”

Barcelona first graced global stages in 2013 at the People’s Light & Theatre Company in Pennsylvania, followed by its debut on the West Coast in 2016 at Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse, with Betty Gilpin and Carlos Leal in leading roles.
