Call of Duty fans unsure about Black Ops 6’s new ‘Scooby-Doo’ feature

Call of Duty fans unsure about Black Ops 6's new ‘Scooby-Doo’ feature

As a seasoned Call of Duty veteran with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the latest leaks for Black Ops 6 have piqued my interest, even if just a little. The introduction of interactive secret doors seems like an interesting twist, albeit one that brings back memories of Scooby-Doo’s mystery-solving antics.

Regardless of personal preference, the Call of Duty series has been gradually shifting towards a more arcade-style approach for quite a while now. This transition is evident in its increasingly stylized characters that seem to be moving closer to the caricature-like style of Dead Ops.

Is Call of Duty becoming increasingly humorous, with features like 8-bit transformations and bobblehead characters? It seems that even Black Ops 6 isn’t halting this comedic shift. Following a large number of leaks, players have spotted a feature reminiscent of Scooby-Doo, and their reactions have been somewhat skeptical.

Since Modern Warfare 2019, doors in Call of Duty have been viewed as excess additions by many players, often leading to more trouble than their value suggests and receiving widespread criticism from the fanbase.

While Black Ops 6 appears to take things a step further, it seems they’re introducing hidden, interactive passageways. Some leaked footage (since removed due to copyright issues) suggests that players can operate these secret doors by activating specific buttons. Once the player moves through, the door closes again.

It appears that these hidden corridors could offer protection from gunfire or help in escaping a blaze. Fortunately, they don’t seem overly crowded, functioning more as cover in games like VALORANT compared to being dangerous hideouts.

Following its leak, numerous players swiftly expressed worry, with one spectator joking that it was reminiscent of Scooby-Doob characters hiding behind deceptive walls.

When I acquire my VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal), I might not find anyone because they are likely in the basement engrossed in RuneScape with claymore and riot shields. It’s too bad for me, but most players don’t mind this. They primarily focus on maintaining a smooth Call of Duty experience overall, rather than getting distracted by minor gimmicks.

It’s interesting to note that secret doors aren’t new to us, as the Hacienda map in Black Ops 4 featured a device reminiscent of Scooby-Doo mysteries. The Hacienda map is one of the leaked remastered maps for Black Ops 6 and might be the reason behind such passages.
