Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Team for Hulk Hogan Gawker Movie

As a lifelong wrestling fan and admirer of the larger-than-life persona that is Hulk Hogan, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are set to bring his infamous legal battle with Gawker to the big screen. The news that Affleck himself is eyeing the role of Hogan? Well, brother, let me tell you, that’s about as believable as a scorpion saying it prefers a nice, cold glass of milk!

“What will you do when Ben Affleck and Matt Damon create a movie about your life? The Good Will Hunting pair are planning to produce a film centered around Hulk Hogan’s well-known legal dispute with Gawker. This controversy led to the demise of the website, which ultimately paid $31 million to the former WWE/WCW star after he sued them following the leak of his private video in 2012.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production company Artists Equity, run by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, have obtained the screenplay for “Killing Gawker,” written by Academy Award-winner Charles Randolph (“Love & Other Drugs,” “The Big Short”). Based on the non-fiction book “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue” by Ryan Holiday, the movie will depict the dramatic series of events surrounding the famous lawsuit that had all the elements of a gripping Hollywood drama. What’s exciting is that Gus Van Sant, who previously worked with Affleck and Damon on “Good Will Hunting,” is in discussions to direct this upcoming film.

The not-so-best part? Affleck is eyeballing the role of Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea. Sure, it’s his production company, but come on? Affleck as Hogan? We don’t see it. Even with all the prosthetics in the world, there’s no way that he can expect to be taken seriously. Thankfully, casting decisions have yet to be finalized, so we’re hoping that perhaps Damon can talk him out of it before the cameras start rolling.

What Happened to the Hulk Hogan Biopic With Chris Hemsworth?

Chris Hemsworth is a perfect fit for Hulk Hogan in a biopic. In fact, at one point, he was slated to play the wrestling icon in a Netflix project directed by Todd Phillips (known for ‘Joker’). However, that film has been put on hold. As per Hulk Hogan’s statement, Netflix didn’t meet the deadline for production, and therefore, the rights for the movie have returned to him.

In this scenario, Netflix found themselves falling behind in terms of business timelines. At the moment, I had to adapt and change strategies. My personal rights and other commitments lie elsewhere, and many exciting events are on the horizon. I hope that Todd Phillips and Chris Hemsworth are still interested in the project, as there’s a significant opportunity still available.

If they decide to move forward with “Killing Gawker,” Affleck and Damon might consider casting Hemsworth for the lead role instead of continuing with their biopic. Although it may require a larger budget, the quality of the film would likely be outstanding. It’s not hard to imagine Hemsworth adopting an American accent, enhancing his physique further, and growing the signature mustache to convincingly play Hogan in what could potentially be a critically acclaimed performance.

Certainly, things are uncertain for now regarding Killing Gawker, but we’ll share updates as they come in over the next few months, buddy!
