Captain America 4 Is Introducing a Crucial Piece of X-Men Lore to the MCU

As a seasoned movie critic who’s seen his fair share of superhero films, let me tell you, the arrival of Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder in Captain America: Brave New World is nothing short of electrifying! The man has an uncanny knack for breathing life into even the most enigmatic characters.

In the upcoming movie “Captain America: Brave New World”, Giancarlo Esposito’s newly unveiled character, Sidewinder, is set to cause chaos for Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). This menacing figure seems destined for a prolonged presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). When it was first announced that Esposito would star in the film, details about his role were carefully concealed. Speculation ran rampant on social media as fans tried to guess and discuss who Esposito might be portraying. However, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Esposito himself accidentally let slip the duration of Sidewinder’s villainy within the MCU.

Giancarlo Esposito revealed he’ll play the leader of the Serpent Society in an upcoming Marvel film, suggesting his character might have a longer lifespan in the series and could become a frequent villain later on.

As a devoted movie enthusiast preparing for my role as the head of the Serpent Society, I found myself eager to delve deeper into the character’s background. Questions like, “What are his distinctive colors?”, “How do they manifest?”, “What are his unique abilities?”, and “What roles do these elements play in his actions?” swirled through my mind. However, it’s clear that not all of these intriguing aspects will be revealed in this film alone. Instead, I’m confident that Sidewinder’s story will continue to unfold more fully in future installments.

Captain America: Brave New World Will Officially Introduce Adamantium to the MCU

In addition to giving Anthony Mackie his solo film debut in the MCU (outdoing Tom Holland), and allowing Harrison Ford to play a character who earns big bucks as Thunderbolt Ross/Red Hulk, Captain America: Brave New World will also introduce a material stronger than vibranium – adamantium. Known from the comics as the strongest substance on the planet, adamantium was previously tied to Fox’s ownership of X-Men characters. Now that these rights have returned to Marvel Studios, it’s time for adamantium to make its appearance in the MCU.

In a similar fashion to how Ulysses Klaue sought to acquire and trade vibranium in Black Panther, powerful entities are going to compete for ownership of adamantium within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Esposito pointed out.

The focus here is on Adamantium, a specific chemical. The discussions revolve around determining its value and controlling its distribution. In essence, many characters in this movie, including Sidewinder, appear to be mercenaries, seeking the highest profit from it, figuring out who they should sell it to, and striving for power over it.

In the film trailer, only a handful of shots of Esposito’s Sidewinder character have been shown.Brave New World seems to be portraying this character in a more realistic manner. Instead of his extravagant reptilian outfit, Sidewinder is now seen wearing a tactical vest and an impressive array of guns that would impress even The Punisher.

Captain America: Brave New World
releases in theaters on February 14, 2025.
