Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies to be screened in Supreme Court for the judges and their families; duo to join in: Report

As a dedicated movie enthusiast with a keen interest in women empowerment narratives, I am thrilled about Kiran Rao’s directorial Laapataa Ladies getting screened at the Supreme Court of India today. Having had the privilege of witnessing Aamir Khan’s commitment to quality storytelling and gender sensitivity through his productions, I have no doubt that this film will make a powerful impact.

Today, August 9, Kiran Rao’s directorial film Laapataa Ladies, co-produced by Aamir Khan, is scheduled for a special screening at the Supreme Court of India. Both Kiran and Aamir will be present at this event and are expected to interact with the audience following the screening.

In line with the initiative taken by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, I am excited to share that this Friday, August 9th, the Supreme Court’s Communication Division has arranged a special screening for us at the Supreme Court. The film showing is Laapataa Ladies, and it will be held in the auditorium of our administrative building complex from 4:15 pm to 6:20 pm post court hours. This event is exclusive for all Supreme Court judges, their spouses, and registry members. After the screening, the renowned actor Aamir Khan and his partner Kiran Rao will engage with the audience in a Q&A session. It promises to be an enriching experience that I look forward to being part of!

The screening is a component of the CJI’s continuous initiative to promote gender understanding within the Supreme Court staff. As reported by Bar & Bench, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud mentioned that this endeavor aims to increase awareness among the court’s personnel. He highlighted that while many such initiatives are not typically publicized, they play a significant role in supporting staff members. The recent establishment of a 24-hour Ayurvedic clinic for their treatment and relaxation is one example. Additionally, the film screening offers an opportunity for staff to interact with each other.

On Friday, 9th August 2024, the film Laapataa Ladies, a production centered around gender equality, will be shown as part of the events celebrating the 75th anniversary of India’s Supreme Court. This special screening will take place in the Auditorium located within C-Block of the Administrative Building Complex. The director of the movie, Ms. Kiran Rao, and the producer, Mr. Aamir Khan, are expected to attend this event.

The movie “Laapataa Ladies” features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in the main characters, while Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma take on important supporting roles. The plot revolves around two brides, Phool (portrayed by Nitanshi Goel) and Pushpa (depicted by Pratibha Ranta), who inadvertently exchange their identities while traveling on a train.

The film was launched on March 1st and garnered favorable critic opinions, raking in approximately 80 million rupees worldwide, an impressive feat considering its small budget. At present, you can stream it on Netflix, where it has been leading the rankings.
