Zoë Kravitz Thanks Channing Tatum For “Trusting Me to Female Direct You” at ‘Blink Twice’ Premiere

As a long-time admirer of the dynamic duo that is Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum, I must say that their love story, as portrayed at the premiere of Blink Twice, has left me absolutely smitten! It’s not every day that you witness such raw emotion and heartfelt appreciation between two artists who are not only in love but also working together.

During the opening night of her first directorial effort, titled “Blink Twice“, on Thursday, actress Zoë Kravitz paused to express a heartfelt gratitude towards the film’s lead actor and her partner, Channing Tatum.

Prior to the screening at Los Angeles’ DGA Theatre, as Kravitz expressed gratitude to the team behind the project, she momentarily addressed the crowd about Channing Tatum, saying, “Let me take a brief moment to discuss Channing Tatum,” followed by reading aloud from a note in her notebook.

“She expressed her gratitude for allowing her to exhibit various roles throughout this filmmaking process, from directing to emotional breakdowns in the bathroom. She thanked them for their patience and understanding as she navigated her OCD tendencies. She described the experience of making this film together as an extraordinary adventure, especially given it was with her partner. The fact that they got to create a movie alongside the person they love made it even more remarkable.”

Kravitz took charge of directing and co-writing the movie, which is a gripping psychological thriller. In this production, Tatum plays Slater King, a tech mogul, while Naomi Ackie portrays Frida, a cocktail waitress who encounters Slater at his charity event. Invited to join him on a trip to his private island with friends, things take an unexpected turn for the worse.

Despite her apprehension about public speaking, Kravitz took the opportunity during the film’s premiere to express gratitude towards the team for their dedication in making the movie as they had envisioned it. Everyone involved worked beyond what was expected, sacrificing sleep and perhaps even sanity for this project. They endured my late-night, perhaps bizarre messages. Yet, none of them reacted dismissively or disrespectfully when I said the film wasn’t quite there yet. Instead, they encouraged persistence, saying ‘Let’s keep going, let’s get there,’ and together, we achieved our goal.

In my living room, I shared with The Hollywood Reporter that stepping into the director’s role felt almost instinctual for me. I explained, “I had a whirlwind of emotions and wasn’t sure how to channel them, so I took pen to paper and wrote something. Incredibly, I was fortunate enough to bring that script to life.” When I gestured towards Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Penny Marshall, and John Cassavetes, I acknowledged them as my inspirations on this journey.

Blink Twice hits theaters on Aug. 23.
