As a devoted fan of The Rookie, I find myself both saddened and intrigued by the departure of Tru Valentino from our beloved series. Having followed Officer Aaron Thorson’s journey from privileged TikTok personality to dedicated cop, I must admit his presence will be missed. Yet, as a seasoned viewer who has witnessed numerous cast changes in long-running shows, I am eagerly anticipating the new faces that Season 7 will bring.
The actor Tru Valentino, who plays Officer Aaron Thorson on “The Rookie,” won’t be back for the new season of this highly praised ABC police drama.
Initially, Valentino made an appearance in the fourth season of “The Rookie” as a recurring character, portraying a wealthy, privileged, and detached individual. However, his background introduced an intriguing twist to the series, and viewers found themselves captivated by his transformation from a popular social media personality into a novice police officer striving for recognition. In season 5, Valentino was upgraded to a regular cast member, establishing deep connections with other characters, notably Detective Nyla Harper, who became his mentor.
The report by TVLine that he’s leaving The Rookie was confirmed when Tru Valentino missed the show’s San Diego Comic-Con event. Fortunately, the Season 6 finale didn’t leave fans hanging with a cliffhanger for Thorson, as his storyline wrapped up neatly without any unresolved plot points.
The Rookie Season 7 Will Introduce Some Fresh Faces
In an exclusive chat with TV Insider, Alexi Hawley, the mastermind behind The Rookie‘s storylines, shed light on what viewers can anticipate in Season 7. He underscored the need to keep the series engaging while crafting episodes brimming with tension and excitement.
“Following Season 6, we recognize we have large footsteps to follow. We’ve made bold moves, and I appreciate our continuous drive to push ourselves further. Despite this, we wonder how we can further emphasize the deep affection audiences have for these characters. In other words, how can we better highlight their charm?”
I’m incredibly grateful that each week brings us a chance for enjoyable experiences, even when we tackle situations that are intense, melancholic, or challenging in nature. Regardless of the tone, because we cover such a wide range of topics, it enables us to consistently deliver episodes that keep you on the edge of your seat.
Although Valentino has left, The Rookie is preparing to introduce two fresh characters in Season 7. Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher have been confirmed to join the cast as the new recruits. Augustine, recognized for his roles in All American and Godfather of Harlem, will portray Miles, a Texas transferee with two years of experience who is still regarded as a rookie at the LAPD. In contrast, Keleher will make his TV debut playing Seth, an officer who appears to be perfect but struggles with making swift decisions and taking action in stressful situations. Given their distinct personalities, these newcomers are expected to present additional challenges for the Mid-Wilshire Division.
