Kumar Sanu strongly denies claims of performing for former Pakistan PM Imran Khan: ‘Audio circulating is not my voice, created using AI’

As a devoted admirer of Kumar Sanu’s illustrious career spanning decades, I find myself deeply concerned about this latest incident involving his name and reputation. The singer has been a beacon of talent in Bollywood for years, serenading us with timeless classics like “Dil Ka Aalam” and “Pardesi Pardesi.” To hear that someone would attempt to manipulate his voice through artificial intelligence is nothing short of disheartening.

Acclaimed vocalist Kumar Sanu has refuted allegations that he sang for Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan. Instead, it’s been revealed that his voice was synthesized using artificial intelligence. Moreover, Sanu has appealed to the Indian government to intervene promptly against any misuse of his voice in this context.

A clip of Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu singing at an event, initially thought to be a concert tied to the release of ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan, recently spread online like wildfire. Upon investigation by PTI, it was revealed that this video was actually from an earlier concert in Brisbane this year. The clip was manipulated using Artificial Intelligence technology.

On his Instagram post, Sanu made it clear by writing an extended message: “I feel the need to set the record straight. Contrary to what’s been circulating on Facebook, I have not sung any songs for Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister. The audio you hear is not my voice; it was produced using AI technology. Certain individuals are attempting to tarnish my reputation, and that’s why I want my fans to know that this rumor is false and misleading.”

As a conscientious advocate for responsible tech usage, I’m deeply concerned about the misuse of advanced technologies like AI and deepfakes. I implore the Indian Government to act swiftly in implementing measures to curb this abuse before it spirals out of control. Immediately following the artist’s official statement, fans flocked to the comments section, expressing their support for Sanu. One user said, “Dada, we stand with you,” another fan posted, “That was an AI-created song,” while a third commented, “Indeed, sir. We understand that you didn’t sing that track. When I first saw the video, I thought it was AI generated.”

On July 26, a Facebook user posted a video of a well-known singer performing a song at a concert, which seemed to be connected to the return of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The post’s caption translated from Urdu suggests that Imran Khan will create a ‘New Pakistan,’ and he plans to bring it back again.

In his professional career, Kumar Sanu is renowned for numerous chart-topping songs such as “Dil Ka Aalam,” “Pardesi Pardesi,” and “Tum Dil Ki” among others. Additionally, he has served as a judge on various music competition programs.
