Black Myth: Wukong DLC reportedly already being planned

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I find myself intrigued by the news about Black Myth: Wukong and its potential DLC. Having played my fair share of Soulsborne games, I’m always on the lookout for new titles that can capture my attention as effectively as FromSoftware’s masterpieces.

As a passionate gamer, I can sense that Game Science isn’t just playing around with the idea of Black Myth: Wukong DLC. Even before the release of this intriguing animalistic action-adventure RPG, there seems to be a hint of ambitious expansion plans brewing among the developers. If their typical approach is any indication, they might be gearing up for another grueling challenge in the form of a downloadable content pack to extend the game’s lifespan.

Similar to a blend of God of War and Elden Ring, Black Myth: Wukong delves deeply into Chinese mythology, promising to be your next potential Soulsborne obsession. Aiming to demonstrate that FromSoftware doesn’t hold exclusive rights in this market, Black Myth: Wukong is poised to arrive at the perfect moment for those who have just completed Shadow of the Erdtree.

On the r/GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, there’s a purported exclusive leak from Chinese tipster Lunatic Ignus. The game, Black Myth: Wukong, is said to offer a playtime of around 40-50 hours and may potentially hit physical shelves within the next year. Additionally, developers are supposedly working on a high-resolution (4K) 60 frames per second version specifically for PlayStation 5.

The significant (yet expected) announcement is that Game Science is contemplating additional content or expansions for their base game based on its sales performance. Previously reported by IGN, the team intends to construct a universe akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with each game focusing on distinct tales from Chinese folklore.

In Souls-like video games, additional content known as downloadable content (DLC) is often a significant feature, with FromSoftware setting an example through expansions like The Old Hunters for Bloodborne and the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree. Other AAA titles like Starfield have generated excitement for their DLC, but it’s worth noting that some fantasy epics such as Baldur’s Gate 3 have decided not to include any DLC at all.

In the future, Game Science might discuss downloadable content (DLC) and in-game purchases that don’t give an advantage over those who don’t pay, but they haven’t made any official announcements yet. It seems like they’re being cautious and observing player feedback before discussing potential DLCs.

Although we haven’t played Black Myth: Wukong as of now, its depiction suggests a vast game world that may potentially receive expansion packs before the anticipated sequel. Regrettably, being compared to Lies of P or Stellar Blade, rather than being a strong candidate for Game of the Year, might not support Game Science’s ambitions for a large-scale franchise.
