Forget Marvel, Fortnite fans want a proper DC season

As a long-time Fortnite player with a soft spot for DC comics, I must admit that I share the concern of many fellow gamers voiced on Reddit by u/Anthony_daboom. It’s been quite some time since we last saw a significant DC presence in Fortnite, and it feels like the Marvel universe is taking over.

In various fictional worlds, some characters are destined to clash: Godzilla against Kong, Freddy Krueger versus Jason Voorhees, Alien against Predator, and the age-old battle between DC Comics’ heroes and Marvel Comics’. This rivalry has been ongoing for decades, much like the friendly competition between Sony and Microsoft in the gaming industry. While it promotes healthy competition, DC fans are currently concerned as Fortnite enters the fray.

As a dedicated Fortnite gamer, I can’t forget the thrill of Season X when Epic Games introduced DC skins, letting me suit up as Batman and Catwoman. That season was special because Tilted Towers transformed into Gotham City. However, it’s been a bit disappointing to see Marvel locations like Doom’s Domain and the Daily Bugle pop up in the game, while the iconic Bat-Signal has gone dark.

Fortnite fans are worried for DC

More chaos from Marvel is expected as “Absolute Doom” in Chapter 5 Season 4 unfolds, aiming to surpass the beloved Marvel extravaganza of Chapter 2 Season 4’s finale. So far, Fortnite has yet to host a full DC season, but with Disney and Epic Games now shaking hands, it seems the Marvel universe might oust DC from its spotlight.

On Reddit, user u/Anthony_daboom, who is a fan of Fortnite, expressed their desire for a DC season in the game, regretting that Epic Games hasn’t fully incorporated this theme yet. It’s surprising, given that there has already been a Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point comic book series.

As a passionate Fortnite gamer, I’ve got an exciting suggestion: Bring back Gotham City and introduce a POI (Point of Interest) for Metropolis! Although Superman has previously graced our Battle Pass, I believe there’s still room for these iconic DC locations. One fan even suggested a season theme of “Gotham Tilted,” which sounds absolutely amazing to me. Let’s make this happen, Fortnite devs!

Someone else voiced their wish, “I hope this happens too! The iconic nature of DC characters would be fantastic if they could offset the influx of Disney characters by 2024’s end”, and a third person agreed, “While I’m thrilled about more Marvel series, a DC series has enormous potential as well.”)

Concerningly, there hasn’t been a fresh DC character skin added to our collection since Black Adam debuted in the store during Chapter 3 Season 4 back in October 2022. Given the influx of Marvel releases since then, it appears that the Avengers have taken the lead over the Justice League when it comes to new skins.

As a passionate fan, I’ve picked up on the buzz that Warner Bros.’ video game division might be undergoing changes, with possible stake sales involved. Meanwhile, the buzz around James Gunn’s revamped DCU is deafening, and I can’t help but hope that if Superman: Legacy materializes in 2025, it would include a fresh Superman outfit for David Corenswet’s portrayal of the Man of Steel.

Regrettably, it appears that Epic Games’ collaboration with Disney (House of Mouse) on Fortnite might make a massive DC season less likely to materialize. Although we appreciate every Marvel crossover, it’s disappointing to see the DC fandom seemingly frozen out by Mr. Freeze in this scenario.
