The Witcher IV: Geralt will NOT be the Lead Character

The Witcher IV: Geralt will NOT be the Lead Character

As a long-time fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the gritty, magical world of The Witcher, I must say, I am thrilled about the prospect of Geralt taking a backseat for the upcoming sequel, The Witcher IV. Don’t get me wrong; I love Geralt, but it’s time for new blood to take over.

For several years, CD Projekt Red has been meticulously reviving Cyberpunk 2077, and soon, they are preparing to debut their next Witcher title on the latest gaming platforms.

In contrast to his central role across three Witcher games so far, Geralt of Rivia might step aside in the upcoming fourth installment, titled The Witcher IV.

Geralt will NOT be the Lead of The Witcher IV

It’s been revealed in a recent interview with Doug Cockle, the longtime voice actor for Geralt, that he will play a less central role in the upcoming Witcher game. According to Cockle, while Geralt is indeed part of the game, it won’t primarily focus on him and his story. We’re all eagerly awaiting to find out who the game will center around instead!

Cockle didn’t give any more details about the game, but he did confirm that CDPR is keeping a very tight lid on the project. Cockle continued, “The Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about it.”

Until CD Projekt Red unveils further details, eager fans can only engage in speculation, yet there seems to be a strong contender for the main character in the upcoming game.

Who could be the Lead of the Next Witcher Game?

Fans promptly suggest Ciri as a potential leading character in the Witcher series, shouldering the role once held by Geralt.

Have an opinion on this article? We’d love to hear it!

In the world of The Witcher, Ciri became Geralt’s charge due to the Law of Surprise, which he activated when he assisted in removing a curse for Pavetta and Emhyr cor Emreis. Notably, Ciri is recognized as the sole princess of Cintra and is adopted by not only Geralt but also Yennefer.

In the realm of The Witcher III, it’s unveiled that Cirilla, or Ciri for short, has blossomed into a young woman and been schooled in the craft of witchering, much like Geralt himself. My bond with Ciri was undeniably one of the key relationships in the game, adding depth and emotion to my adventures as a monster slayer.

Given that Ciri possesses Geralt’s skills, along with additional talents, it’s clear she would be an ideal choice to star in the upcoming Witcher game. Her combat prowess and magical abilities make her versatile, while her potential for player customization offers a unique fit for various playstyles.

Without a doubt, given that Geralt serves as her mentor, there’s a strong possibility he might appear in the game as an ally or secondary character. Given his long-standing role as the main protagonist, it seems appropriate for him to eventually hand over the spotlight to his daughter in future installments of the series.

The Witcher IV: Geralt will NOT be the Lead Character

If Not Ciri, then Who?

As a dedicated fan, I’ve always dreamt about the chance where CDPR could emulate the Cyberpunk vibe by crafting a protagonist that players can personalize to their heart’s content, allowing adjustments in gender and appearance. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim successfully pulled off this feature, and it became a critically acclaimed game, proving that it’s possible to blend customization with high-quality storytelling.

As a dedicated fan of The Witcher series, it feels strange to imagine a sequel that doesn’t delve deeper into Geralt’s tale. After all, I’ve been following his journey for so long, and I can’t help but feel that his story isn’t fully concluded yet.

It hasn’t been announced when exactly “The Witcher IV” will be released, however, there are predictions that it might debut around the year 2025.
