Elle King Opens Up About Toxic Relationship With Rob Schneider

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for unraveling the complexities of both on-screen and off-screen narratives, I must say that the tumultuous relationship between Elle King and her father, Rob Schneider, is as captivating as any Hollywood drama.

4-time Grammy Nominee Elle King recently appeared on Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast. During the conversation, she discussed her complex relationship with her father, comedian Rob Schneider. She also used the platform to clarify her stance on his controversial opinions about drag and the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in response to his comments following this year’s Olympic Games opening ceremony.

According to Variety, King’s remarks were made in response to Schneider’s criticism of the Olympic opening ceremony. The ceremony depicted a modern interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” with drag queens and vibrant individuals replacing Jesus and his disciples in the scene. Later in July, Schneider publicly expressed his displeasure with the imagery used in the show, stating that he hoped these Olympics would attract as many viewers as CSPAN.

“To the finest athletes globally, I extend my warmest wishes for success, but personally, I find it difficult to support an Olympics that seemingly disregards Christianity and openly honors something akin to Satanism.”

2024’s Olympic Games opening ceremony in France had a moment that stood out as particularly divisive, with many instances of disagreement throughout. Among the critics was Schneider, who was more vocal than most, describing the event as reminiscent of a “school board meeting.” In another post on X, he went even further, labeling the ceremony an “attack on Christianity.” These views sparked controversy in today’s climate. As a result, Elle King has made it clear that she does not wish to be associated with her father or his comments in this context.

For many years, King and Schneider’s bond has been marked by strain. As a child, King recounted that they were not particularly close, and it wasn’t until later in life that their connection developed. In the podcast, she openly criticized his views on the Olympics, labeling him as “not very nice,” further expressing her disagreement with many of his statements.

I must admit, it’s disheartening to encounter individuals who lack knowledge and empathy towards the LGBTQ+ community. I have had the privilege of knowing many extraordinary people from this community, and their experiences and stories have enriched my life in ways that words can hardly describe.

As a child, King rarely had much time to interact with Schneider because his work responsibilities kept him occupied most of the time. In her own words, when there was a chance, she often found herself engrossed on set, getting “lost in the mix” amidst the busy schedules. Additionally, if she made a mistake during a shot or spoke during it, she would face severe consequences, as she put it, she would be “in deep trouble.”

In their ongoing disagreements, King’s weight and tattoos have been a recurring issue for Schneider. She mentioned that her father sent her to a weight loss camp as a child, and she faced trouble when she injured her ankle because she hadn’t lost any weight afterward.

In my case, with a strong disapproval from my father towards tattoos or personal expression, I found myself adorned in sweaters amidst the scorching heat of 108 degrees, as I was already in the process of getting inked.

The monarch has no intentions of reconciling with her father, and prefers to keep a distance from him entirely. She further clarified:

While it’s understandable for you to deeply desire a change in another person, it’s crucial to remember that we don’t have the power to control others’ actions or emotions. What we can manage effectively is our own responses and how we deal with our feelings in such situations.

In the recent past, Schneider graced the screen in Adam Sandler’s 2023 animated movie titled “Leo,” available on Netflix, as well as the comedy flick “Daddy Daughter Trip,” which also came out in 2023. Notably, Schneider has a history with Saturday Night Live and has been featured in numerous comedies, including “The Hot Chick,” “The Benchwarmers,” “Judge Dredd,” and “Grown Ups.” In September, he will release a new book titled “You Can Do It: Speak Your Mind America!” that focuses on free speech.
