Having followed Ryan Murphy’s impressive body of work for years, I can confidently say that his latest project promises to be a thrilling journey into the darkest corners of human nature.
In a new development, FX has revealed the initial teaser for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series titled Grotesquerie. The unsettling trailer, which fuses religious symbolism with grisly crime scene footage, offers a fleeting glimpse of Travis Kelce, making his acting debut in the 10-episode project. Notably, Niecy Nash-Betts, who previously worked with Murphy on the critically acclaimed Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, will spearhead Grotesquerie as Detective Lois Tryon, diligently working to untangle the chilling enigma surrounding a string of crimes. In the trailer, Nash’s voice can be heard, along with an enigmatic voice that hints: “This killer is preaching, evangelizing, sermonizing. To grasp this monster, we must decipher these murders.”
In addition to Nash-Betts and an unspecified character, the series Grotesquerie boasts the talents of Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Raven Goodwin. Created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baetz (known for Feud: Capote vs. The Swans), and Joe Baken (American Horror Stories), Grotesquerie also has Murphy, Winkler, Martin Woodall, and Elegance Bratton directing. A string of disturbing crimes has left a small town on edge. Detective Lois Tryon (Nash-Betts) senses a chilling connection to these crimes, as if an unseen force is challenging her. At home, Lois battles with a troubled relationship with her daughter, a critically ill husband, and her own psychological struggles. Desperate for answers and lacking guidance, she seeks assistance from Sister Megan (Diamond), a nun who also works as a journalist for the Catholic Guardian. Having witnessed humanity’s darkest aspects, Sister Megan remains hopeful about its potential for good. In contrast, Lois harbors doubts about the world’s capacity for kindness. As they piece together the puzzle of these crimes, Lois and Sister Megan find themselves entangled in a sinister network that raises more questions than it answers.
Nash-Betts has teamed up with Murphy for another collaboration, following their successful venture in the limited series ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’. This collaboration earned Nash-Betts an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. In the future, she will collaborate with Murphy again on the legal procedural ‘All’s Fair’, where she’ll be joined by stars like Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor, and Naomi Watts. Additionally, Nash-Betts will serve as an executive producer for this project.
What We Can Expect From Travis Kelce’s Acting Debut
Travis Kelce, who has seen his fame grow since partnering with pop sensation Taylor Swift, is preparing to make his acting debut in the show “Grotesquerie” (and we can bet this won’t be his only role). At this point, no information about his character has been disclosed, so it’s unclear how significant his part will be. Ryan Murphy, who previously worked with non-actors like Kardashian on “American Horror Story: Delicate” and received positive feedback, seems to have a talent for helping people bring characters to life effectively. This gives us some optimism about Kelce’s acting career.
In a discussion on their shared podcast, “New Heights,” Travis Kelce, the tight-end for the Kansas City Chiefs, spoke about working on the project. He expressed that there seems to be no limit to what Murphy is capable of, followed by stating:

Regarding football, it’s worth noting that FX recently unveiled a trailer for Josh Rivera’s upcoming miniseries titled “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.” This production chronicles the life of Aaron Hernandez, a former New England Patriots player who was found guilty of murder. Tragically, Hernandez took his own life while incarcerated in 2017. The series consists of ten episodes and is set to air on FX starting September 17. The following day, it will be available for streaming on Hulu.
The addition of “Grotesquerie” and “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” increases Murphy’s Fall lineup to five, with these new shows joining “9-1-1”, “9-1-1: Lonestar”, and “Doctor Odyssey”.
