Despite constant speculation about a supposed rivalry between them, these two actresses always maintained their strong friendship. Here’s one instance where they demonstrated their unwavering support for each other, even as outsiders made many assumptions about their relationship.
2016 saw Priyanka Chopra already making waves in the Western entertainment industry. At an event, a reporter subtly brought up the topic of their supposed rivalry. He began his question by acknowledging her international success and casually mentioned that Deepika was also gaining traction in Hollywood.
The reporter hinted at the possibility of their Bollywood rivalry expanding into a global competition. In her characteristic wit, Priyanka asked, “I used to think we were friends, now it’s a competition? We were once inseparable, so when did this shift happen and why?”
When the reporter stated, “You will inform us,” PeeCee responded, “Actually, I didn’t imply it had altered; instead, you are suggesting it has changed. I’m simply clarifying that nothing has shifted, we remain as we were. Deepika Padukone, who starred in the film Padmaavat, also mentioned that she has been acquainted with Priyanka for quite some time, and finding similarities between them is “very strange and uncomfortable.” She further stated, “I don’t think we are professional competitors. We never were. So why should it be now? She is excelling in her own field. The demands of her work versus the requirements I face or my current endeavors are distinct.”
In terms of their professional collaborations, Deepika and Priyanka starred side by side in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic film Bajirao Mastani (released in 2015).
