As a long-time cinephile who has witnessed the ebb and flow of the Star Wars universe, I must say that the anticipation for The Mandalorian & Grogu is palpable. Having grown up with the original trilogy and later embracing the prequels, reboots, and spin-offs, I have seen my fair share of highs and lows in this galaxy far, far away.

In 2026, it’s anticipated that the duo of The Mandalorian and Grogu will lend a helping hand to revitalize the Star Wars franchise. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about whether any other characters from the popular Disney+ show might be part of the upcoming cinematic journey.

In a recent chat with ComicBook.com, actress Katee Sackhoff talked about her part in the upcoming animated movie ‘Watchmen’, and the discussion veered towards ‘The Mandalorian’ making its way to the big screen. When asked if her character Bo-Katan Kryze would feature in the film, Sackhoff, a native of Oregon, gave a funny yet predictable reply.

At the latest D23 Disney Fan Expo, spectators watched the premiere of the first trailer for an upcoming movie with great enthusiasm, showcasing the reappearance of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his diminutive green Force-wielder companion. Although there were unexpected elements in the teaser, certain characters like Bo-Katan, played by Sackhoff, were missing from the preview. This absence seems to contradict continuous rumors suggesting that the movie will involve more Mandalorians, who had a significant role in the third season of the series.

Given her status as the true ruler of Mandalore, Bo-Katan is bound to play a significant role in narratives involving the warrior tribe. However, when queried regarding her involvement in the film, she responded as one might anticipate, given Disney’s strict policy against revealing plot details prematurely.

Number one, if I knew I wouldn’t tell you, and if I did tell you, they’d probably kill me.

Actress Katee Sackhoff made her debut on The Mandalorian’s cast during season 2, quickly gaining favor among viewers due to her portrayal of a character she had previously voiced in the animated Star Wars series Clone Wars. Over its three seasons, The Mandalorian has stood out as a notable gem within Disney’s Star Wars universe, which has faced both praise and critique, especially with its film adaptations. The upcoming live-action film featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu marks the first such Star Wars release in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and it may help rekindle fan interest.

Jon Favreau is responsible for directing the series titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu“. He collaborated with Dave Filoni in writing the script. In the past, he has expressed his enthusiasm about bringing these beloved characters to life on screen. As he stated, “I’ve always enjoyed crafting tales within the captivating universe that George Lucas built. The opportunity to bring the Mandalorian and his trainee Grogu to the big screen is truly thrilling.”

At present, Katee Sackhoff lends her voice to Laurie Juspeczyk (Silk Spectre) in the animated DC Studios film titled Watchmen Chapter 1. Before venturing into the Star Wars universe, she was widely recognized for her portrayal of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Among her other significant roles are those in the cop drama series Longmire, the popular 24 series starring Keifer Sutherland, and various voiceover projects.

As a movie enthusiast, I was fortunate enough to attend the D23 event where Lucasfilm didn’t officially unveil the teaser for “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. However, whispers from fellow attendees and sneaky leaks online hint at an exhilarating action-packed journey on the horizon for this dynamic duo.

The trailer featured cameos of some familiar faces, including Zeb Orrelios, one of the main characters from the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, who also made a live-action cameo in an episode of The Mandalorian. Grogu is also seen with some Anzellans, the same species of tiny droidsmiths as Babu Frick, who appeared in The Rise of Skywalker.

A snowy world reminiscent of Hoth is depicted, though not explicitly named. We catch glimpses of AT-ATs and AT-RTs, similar to those seen in ‘Revenge of the Sith’, as well as the Razor Crest, which we presume is a new version that Din Djarin obtained following the end of Season 3.

The absence of Mandalorians or Bo-Katan in the trailer makes some viewers speculate that their roles in the movie are being hidden for now, given their significance in the show. This might be why Sackhoff hasn’t said much yet. Additionally, there’s a possibility that Giancarlo Esposito’s character Moff Gideon could reappear, as he has expressed interest in returning, despite his apparent demise in the series.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
opens in theaters on May 22, 2026.
