The Video Games
Have you ever dreamt about possessing the abilities of a bender in the real world – controlling air, fire, water, or earth? Well, I share your sentiment, but alas, it seems like such a scenario remains merely a fantasy. However, who knows what the future holds?
As a devoted gamer, I must confess that the current void in my gaming life isn’t filled by any new releases. However, if you’re looking for something from the world of “The Last Airbender”, there have been quite a few games set in this universe, primarily on older platforms. There is one relatively recent title called “Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance“, but I must admit that it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
Just like those side comics, many of the earlier games I’ve played are set within the timeline of the TV show, such as “Avatar: The Last Airbender” from 2006. In this game, you can take command of characters like Aang, Sokka, Katara – but not Toph, unfortunately. Instead, you control Haru, an earthbender, because this first game is centered around Book 1 of the series. Do you remember him?
The original game is quite basic, and its follow-ups, titled “The Burning Earth” and “Into the Inferno“, share similar gameplay mechanics. These sequels recount incidents from Books 2 and 3, respectively. Notably, the handheld versions of these games were distinct in terms of visual style and gameplay, resembling Role-Playing Games (RPGs) more closely than their predecessor.

You may not be surprised to learn that there’s an abundance of fan-written stories based on the movie ‘Avatar’. If you’re interested, you might find a wealth of material on Wattpad, written by fellow enthusiasts that you can explore.
Instead, let me emphasize that I’d like to concentrate mainly on an independent fan creation titled “The Legend of Genji“. Although it isn’t connected with the official series in any manner, I believe it holds a quality nearly equal to those produced by the authorized projects.
The narrative revolves around the next successor to Korra, who is a sandbender, and there are five installments in this series. However, it seems the show has been terminated, so be aware of that. Despite the cancellation, it’s fascinating to see how enthusiastic fans have become, coming up with entirely new content on their own as they continue to crave more material.
The M. Night Shyamalan Movie
To round off, let’s discuss the controversial film “The Last Airbender,” directed by M. Night Shyamalan, which Alexandra Ramos, an avid fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, finds to be his most disappointing work. Many others share this viewpoint as well.
As a gamer, I’ve got to admit that this movie has received some harsh criticism from fellow fans, and for good reason.
