The court refused CAA’s attempt to dismiss the case, alleging that they failed to inform her about Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual misconduct before our encounter with him. Last year, Ormond filed a broad lawsuit against her former agency Miramax and Disney, claiming they ignored Weinstein’s criminal actions. Following her assault, she stated that her agents at the time, who were reportedly informed by another client about Weinstein offering sex in exchange for career advancements, advised her against reporting the incident to the police.
As a fervent admirer reporting this news, on Monday, Judge Suzanne Adams in New York refused to dismiss a case. Her reasoning was that the claims suggest CAA (Creative Artists Agency) had knowledge or grounds to suspect an assault by Weinstein. This potential wrongdoing could imply a breach of CAA’s fiduciary duties towards Ormond, who gained fame in the ’90s with roles in Legends of the Fall, First Knight, and Sabrina.
Claims were also allowed to proceed against Disney, Miramax and Weinstein.
In her lawsuit, Ormond accused her former representatives Bryan Lourd and Kevin Huvane of pushing her into a meeting with Weinstein that ultimately resulted in her being assaulted, and she didn’t report the incident to the authorities afterwards. Additionally, she implicated Disney executives Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Eisner for failing to adequately supervise Weinstein, with the intention of ignoring his misconduct to keep profiting from their business dealings with Miramax. However, none of these individuals were listed as defendants in the lawsuit.
