Blake Livelys It Ends with Us Exceeds $100 Million at Box Office

As a die-hard moviegoer who’s seen more films than I can count, it’s truly impressive to witness a gem like “It Ends with Us” reach such remarkable heights at the box office. With a modest budget and a heartwarming story that resonates deeply, its $100.4 million domestic earnings are a testament to Blake Lively’s captivating performance and Justin Baldoni’s skillful direction.

As a movie critic, I must admit that the adage “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride” didn’t hold true for the romantic drama “It Ends with Us.” This heartfelt film has managed to surpass the $100-million mark at the domestic box office, a significant achievement indeed. Despite not claiming the number one spot in theaters during its initial two weekends of release, the collaboration between director Justin Baldoni and leading lady Blake Lively was undeniably successful. The numbers don’t lie; “It Ends with Us” has officially banked an impressive $100.4 million domestically (as reported by The Numbers).

Initially, I found myself competing against my husband Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine in the cinematic arena as our romantic drama hit the big screens on August 9th. Contrary to expectations, it turned out to be a nail-biting contest, but in the end, Deadpool managed to secure the top spot with an impressive $53.8 million haul. My movie, It Ends with Us, had to settle for the runner-up position with $50 million – not too shabby for a silver medalist!

Over the past weekend, “It Ends with Us” faced stiff competition not just from one, but two summer blockbusters. The romantic drama starring Blake Lively managed a third place finish with earnings of $23.8 million. Instead, it was “Alien: Romulus” that emerged victorious as the top movie, earning an impressive $42 million. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds outshone his wife once more as “Deadpool & Wolverine” claimed the runner-up position with a haul of $30 million.

Despite “Alien: Romulus” dominating the weekend box office, Blake Lively’s “It Ends with Us” certainly holds its ground financially, showing no signs of embarrassment. You see, this romantic drama’s foundation lies in Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, a property that’s just eight years old – a relatively short time for such a strong performance.

Over the past 45 years, fans of aliens have been accustomed to the idea that no one can hear you scream in space. On the other hand, Deadpool, known for his colorful language, made his debut in comic books when New Mutants issue 98 was published in December 1990 (originally dated 1991). In those years, Deadpool has certainly eaten a lot of chimichangas.

Furthermore, unlike the blockbuster movies like Alien: Romulus ($80 million) and the combined budget of Deadpool & Wolverine (an estimated $200 million), the production cost for The Lively Rom-Drama was a modest $25 million. Intriguingly, despite this lower budget, It Ends with Us is approaching the $200-million mark globally ($182.6 million so far).

If fans question whether Lively values the success of the film over other factors amidst the reported tension with co-star and director Justin Baldoni, Ryan Reynolds’ wife playfully jabbed at her husband while promoting the adaptation. During an interview with Capital FM, Lively humorously commented about Deadpool 3:

“Skip Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend, if you will – I find that movie rather amusing [chuckles]. But honestly, I’m quite fond of it this weekend. To each their own, I suppose. Go ahead and see either one [more laughter], no hard feelings.”

Not only did Nicolas Cage’s movie “Longlegs” hit a whopping $100 million at the box office, despite its meager budget, but it also demonstrates that there’s ample opportunity for quality films to succeed even amidst the multitude of summer blockbusters. On August 19th, Blake Lively’s romantic-drama “It Ends with Us” surpassed the $100 million milestone, earning an additional $2.8 million that day.
