Chhaava: Vicky Kaushal says the West makes Avengers due to lack of real superheroes like Chhatrapati Shivaji; 'all others will fail in front of them'

As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema and a history enthusiast, I must say that Vicky Kaushal’s words resonate deeply with me. His dedication to portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is truly commendable. Having grown up listening to tales of our brave heroes like Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji, it feels refreshing to see them brought to life on the big screen.

In a thrilling turn of events, the creators behind the much-awaited movie Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as the main character, have unveiled their teaser trailer. Moviegoers and cinema aficionados are taken aback by Kaushal’s on-screen persona and commitment to his role. During a recent promotional event for the film, Kaushal expressed his view that Western movie producers feel pressured to produce films similar to Avengers. He further stated that they lack the “true superheroes” like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and any attempts to portray such characters would be eclipsed by him.

The National Award-winning actor expressed his profound gratitude for getting the chance to depict the Maratha warrior, who was the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire. He regarded it as an exceptional opportunity in an actor’s career and praised the tireless dedication of the entire film crew. Moreover, he pointed out that Indian history provides unique superheroes that Western filmmakers are often driven to recreate characters like those found in Avengers due to their absence in their own histories.

In a conversation with PTI, Vicky expressed, “Exploring India’s past reveals numerous superheroes such as Sambhaji and Chhatrapati Shivaji who outshine other superheroes. It’s crucial to share these tales and rejoice together. We take great pride in them. Their bravery and sacrifices are the reasons we get to live in this magnificent country.”

As someone who has always been captivated by Indian history, I eagerly await the release of the official teaser for Chhaava, a period drama about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Having followed the life and times of this great Maratha ruler since my school days, I am particularly intrigued to see how Kaushal portrays him in this upcoming film. The 1.12-minute clip offers a tantalizing glimpse into the intensity and drama that will unfold on screen, with its groundbreaking battle sequences promising an immersive visual experience for fans like me who thirst for historical accuracy in our entertainment.

In the opening scene, Vicky is depicted battling numerous warriors all by himself, his roars echoing powerfully like a fierce tiger as he orchestrates the tumultuous battlefield. The visuals aim to be exhilarating and thought-provoking. Furthermore, Akshaye Khanna joins the cast, playing an intriguing villainous character that enhances the film’s storyline.

In the upcoming movie set to be released on December 6, 2024, Rashmika Mandanna portrays Yesubai Bhonsale, the spouse of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Alongside her, the film boasts talented actors like Akshaye Khanna, Divya Dutta, and Ashutosh Rana in supporting roles. The production company for this period drama is none other than Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
