Call of Duty fans beg the series to go ‘back to basics’ amid new animal skins

As a longtime Call of Duty enthusiast with countless hours spent in virtual battlefields, I find myself at a crossroads with the latest developments in Modern Warfare 3. The introduction of feline soldiers, slugs, and aquatic creatures as playable characters feels like a wild detour from the military shooter that I once knew and loved.

In the realm of gaming characters, there’s a wealth of factors at play in their creation. Some characters thrive on established popularity, such as Mario and Pikachu, while others capitalize on allure, like Stellar Blade did extensively. Games with animation, such as Street Fighter and VALORANT, are often praised for their diversity, accurately portraying various ethnicities.

As a devoted fan, it’s clear that timeless characters often emerge from an abundance of creative thoughts. However, this year, Call of Duty appears to be taking a different approach, which feels more like madness disguised as method. Instead of relying on our cherished veterans, such as Captain Price, they seem to be opting for anthropomorphic feline characters and adorable, yet oddly unattractive creatures.

Modern Warfare 3’s latest skins include cats, slugs, and fish

In the game Modern Warfare 3, you’ll find a diverse array of creatures coexisting alongside soldiers. From pigeons to cats, rats, dogs, bunnies, wolves, gorillas, rhinos, ducks, and beyond, these animals are all seen brandishing weapons. It’s as if someone dropped an animated Zootopia into a combat zone – it’s pure chaos!

With the unveiling of Season 5 Reloaded, we’re seeing even more diverse characters joining our roster! This includes fish, cat, and slug skins, as well as an unofficial Transformers Operator, a golden morph suit, The Crow, and eerie emojis.

In this new game, a special mode called “Fishfection” has been created especially for the latest animals. In this mode, teams of cats, equipped with the newly introduced Spear and Torque 35 Combat Bow, challenge defenseless fish. The term “Fishfection” is derived from a similar game known as Infection, but in this mode, players can acquire unique skins for their characters without any charge.

After the unveiling of the latest character skins, gamers have flocked to social media platforms to express their desire for a return to the original military theme of Call of Duty, hoping for a shift back to its intended role as a tactical shooter.

In a comment on X, someone expressed, “They should return Call of Duty to its roots. It seems like they’ve strayed too far.” Another chimed in, “The spirit of COD games appears to be missing. They barely put any effort into the cosmetics and content to preserve at least some connection to the game’s title and universe.”

…”Adding my voice to the chorus, I can’t help but feel a deeper longing for H2M. This multiplayer mod from Modern Warfare 2, which was recently taken down by Activision, has left many of us craving more military-themed skins. However, it seems that Activision is tapping into a different market with their eccentric costumes…”
