As a longtime fan who has followed Kelly Reilly‘s career since her early days on “Sherlock Holmes,” it’s heartening to see her taking on yet another captivating role that promises to keep me on the edge of my seat. Her portrayal of Beth Dutton in “Yellowstone” was nothing short of phenomenal, but it seems that the actress is not one to rest on her laurels.

Since 2018, Kelly Reilly has embodied one of TV’s most admired tough characters in Beth Dutton. However, much like other television personalities who aren’t named “Simpson,” Beth’s story on Yellowstone might be nearing its conclusion with the final episodes of Season 5 airing on Paramount Network. Fortunately, the actress has secured her next significant role, but it seems it will be more demanding than a typical day at the ranch.

Reilly will appear in an upcoming series, titled “Under Salt Marsh,” that’s situated closer to her native land. This new program is referred to as a “tense crime drama” and takes place in a fictional Welsh town named Morfa Halen, nestled between imposing mountains and the sea.

It’s revealed that the boy is actually one of Jackie’s pupils, and this revelation stirs up shock and tumult in the small town much like a three-year-old cold case. Back then, Jackie’s niece Nessa vanished, and this investigation ultimately led to the downfall of the detective involved.

Detective Eric Bull, Jackie’s ex-partner, is back in Morfa Halen, summoned by events years after he failed to find Nessa. As they join forces again, emotions run high due to past failures and unresolved tension. Their goal is to seek justice for the deceased boy, but as a threatening storm approaches, they also unearth hidden secrets and skeletons in the town’s closet that may prematurely conclude their investigations, adding a natural urgency to their work.

“Under Salt Marsh,” a production by Claire Oakley known for helming “Make Up,” is taking shape. Oakley is not only serving as an executive producer and lead director, but she is also co-writing the script alongside Jonathan Harbottle and Nikita Lalwani. The show is slated to premiere as an original production on Sky, with Little Door Productions handling its creation, in collaboration with Sky Studios. Filming is anticipated to commence towards the end of this year, suggesting that its broadcast might occur post-2024 TV programming.

Will Kelly Reilly Return To The Yellowstone Franchise After Season 5?

Between breaks in the airing of Yellowstone, it was anticipated that Kelly Reilly, along with other cast members, would return for a spin-off series tentatively named 2024. However, reports emerged suggesting salary disagreements could potentially cause issues. The actress appeared to dismiss these rumors, but remains vague about whether Beth Dutton’s TV storyline will carry on or not.

As a gamer, I was pretty hyped about Beth potentially coming back, but it seems like my hopes took a hit when they announced Michelle Pfeiffer will take charge in the sequel series, now titled Madison. Patrick J. Adams is joining the cast too, and there’s a buzz that Kurt Russell might be another main character.

As a devoted fan, I can see an opportunity for cherished characters to reappear, maintaining the authenticity of the beloved Yellowstone series. However, with Reilly embarking on a fresh role in another show, it seems Beth’s future might be uncertain. Yet, keep in mind that Under Salt Marsh is slated as a limited six-episode run, so there’s hope that Reilly could film scenes for Madison before venturing to Wales.

Although Kelly Reilly’s career has primarily been associated with her role on the Yellowstone ranch, she has developed a keen interest in horror on the big screen. For instance, she starred alongside other actors in 2019’s Eli, followed by The Cursed in 2021 and A Haunting in Venice in 2023. On television, she made appearances in some episodes of the French comedy series Greek Salad in 2023. However, Under Salt Marsh marks her return to a lead TV role since she was initially cast as Beth Dutton.
