Ironheart’s Anthony Ramos Drops A Bold Prediction About His Marvel Villain, But I Think His Comments Speak To A Larger MCU Problem

As a longtime Marvel fan who has witnessed the highs and lows of their villainous roster, I must admit that Anthony Ramos‘ claim about The Hood being “the coolest villain in Marvel history” piqued my interest. While it’s not uncommon for actors to express enthusiasm for their roles, the potential of Parker Robbins to make a lasting impact on the MCU is undeniable.

Marvel Studios has yet to fully recover from the exhilarating impact of Deadpool and Wolverine, a humorous homage to the Marvel storytelling era of 20th Century Fox, adorned with spectacular cameos and advancing the Multiverse concept in the MCU. The introduction of a new villain, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), was chilling, despite Corrin drawing inspiration from Willy Wonka for her performance. However, it’s questionable whether Nova made a lasting impression on the film or the MCU beyond her role in the latter, as Anthony Ramos attempts to generate excitement for his villainous role in Ironheart.

In one of the upcoming Marvel series titled “Ironheart,” we’ll delve further into the tale of brilliant inventor Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne, who made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” At the latest D23 event, a sneak peek of “Ironheart” was unveiled, giving us a glimpse into Anthony Ramos’ role in the unfolding storyline. However, it was Ramos’ comments on the official Marvel podcast that truly sparked excitement among Marvel enthusiasts. He shared his anticipation for his character, Parker Robbins, better known as The Hood. According to Ramos:

As a gaming enthusiast, let me tell you, this villain is nothing short of mind-blowing! He’s the epitome of coolness, standing tall as the most incredible antagonist Marvel has ever seen. The upcoming showdown between The Hood and Riri Williams is something I can hardly wait for. It’s a thrilling setup that promises an intense rivalry, and I can feel the tension building with every turn of the page.

In most cases, an actor might be expected to generate excitement about their role. However, the character known as The Hood possesses the ability to influence not only Ironheart but potentially the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (particularly if they develop more street-level villains and criminal organizations). The sneak peeks remained true to Parker Robbins’ comic book background, as he was a burglar who needed to steal valuable goods to cover his mother’s medical expenses. However, when he acquires a cloak and boots imbued with magical, mystical properties, it awakens hidden powers within him, making him a more formidable adversary.

But it was Ramos calling The Hood “the coolest villain in Marvel history” that struck a chord. Because the bar has been too low recently for me to even mount a serious argument. Marvel’s villain issues are nothing new. Outside of Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), there probably aren’t other Marvel villains calling themselves household names. Hela, Zemo, Ego… these are just a few of the Phase Three villains who are more famous for the actors who played them, and not really for the villain themselves. There’s real potential in characters such as Namor the Submariner (Tenoch Huerta). But quickly, raise your hand if you can tell me the name of the villain in The Marvels. Or Moon Knight. Or Thor: Love and Thunder. No, just saying Christian Bale doesn’t count.

In response to the legal troubles involving Jonathan Majors, Marvel Studios is putting more resources into developing a major villain. Marvel icon Robert Downey Jr. has consented to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe to collaborate with Kevin Feige in shaping Doctor Doom. Furthermore, the studio finds the allure of Agatha Harkness (portrayed by Kathryn Hahn) compelling enough to grant her a full season for a series on Disney+’s streaming platform.

However, since it’s challenging to consistently create a strong lineup of formidable opponents for Anthony Ramos’ Ironheart antagonist, there’s a chance that his upcoming villain could indeed be the most captivating villain in Marvel history. This leaves us questioning if his claim might just be accurate.
