John Cena Says Sex Scenes Are ‘The Worst’ But Still Not As Bad As What Disney Made Him Do With Tape At The Oscars

John Cena Says Sex Scenes Are ‘The Worst’ But Still Not As Bad As What Disney Made Him Do With Tape At The Oscars

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of wrestling and Hollywood, I can confidently say that John Cena is a one-of-a-kind entertainer. His unwavering dedication to pushing boundaries and his knack for embracing uncomfortable situations with grace is nothing short of inspiring.

John Cena isn’t afraid to dive headfirst into difficult situations, as he throws caution to the wind when taking on new challenges. His fearless approach has been evident throughout his career in WWE, where he frequently accepted roles that tested him, and in Hollywood, where he consistently takes on demanding parts that push him beyond his comfort zone. However, it’s important to note that just because he embraces these challenges doesn’t mean he enjoys them. In fact, John Cena openly expressed his discomfort with filming sex scenes, calling them “the most challenging.”

During a nostalgic chat, the topic under discussion arose from memories of the movie “Trainwreck.” Cena praised director Judd Apatow for providing him with valuable guidance and fostering an atmosphere that made him feel at ease to explore his acting abilities. This allowed him to develop a good rapport with Amy Schumer and secure the role, however, executing it wasn’t a walk in the park as he had to perform “awkward sex” scenes in front of a large crew, which was undeniably embarrassing. He shared these insights during an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay.

It’s the worst. Right now, you guys at home think it’s just us. No, there’s a whole fucking world back here (pointing off-camera)… There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing. So, like it’s real embarrassing and then on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene where you’re making fun of yourself. They were like, ‘Try to have the most awkward sex you possibly can.’ And with an audience watching that, it’s different. I don’t want to say it sucks. It’s different than what you all think it is.

In a typical scenario, other performers might learn from a past incident and avoid similar awkward situations in the future. However, John Cena doesn’t operate that way. When he gets involved, he strives to improve the situation as much as possible, which often involves fully committing to the idea. This is exactly what transpired during his highly discussed (and well-received) performance at this year’s Oscars. Apparently, he hadn’t initially planned on attending, but host Jimmy Kimmel reached out to him personally and asked him to read a passage, which he agreed to do.

Cena thought the gag, which involved him appearing naked with just a big envelope in front of him, was really funny, and when he agreed, he thought he’d just be totally naked for real (which likely would have received more FCC complaints). But then he showed up and Disney made him put tape over his butt crack, which was even more uncomfortable than being naked. The wrestling legend said it was way harder than the Trainwreck sex scene and went back to the tape in explaining why…

Initially, I believed I’d be entirely exposed. I anticipated full male anatomy, but given it was Disney, I needed to cover my lower back area with tape. This added layer of self-consciousness made the experience even more mortifying, walking around with a taped rear end.

John Cena is a treasure. He’s a Make A Wish legend, an incredible performer and an actor who seems to only be getting better with every role. That starts with being comfortable with himself and doing the things he responds to. That’s resulted in a ton of fascinating projects over the last decade or so in Hollywood, and next year, it’ll result in him returning to WWE for a yearlong farewell tour because he wants to. I can’t wait.
