Stree 2 actor Rajkummar Rao on glorification of Ranbir Kapoor's Animal; says film isn't titled 'Aadarsh Purush'; defends Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas

As a fervent admirer of Rajkummar Rao’s acting prowess and insightful perspectives, I find myself consistently captivated by his eloquent discourse on films and characters. His recent conversation with Raj Shamani was no exception, as he delved deep into the complexities of storytelling and character portrayal in Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that Rajkummar Rao is currently basking in the tremendous success of his latest release, Stree 2. In a recent chat, he voiced his support for Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas and praised Ranbir Kapoor’s acting prowess in Animal. During our discussion, he generously shared his insights on both films.

During a recent chat with Raj Shamani on his YouTube platform, actor Rajkummar Rao was questioned about the portrayal of complex, negative characters in films. Raj Shamani used Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas and Ranbir Kapoor’s latest release, Animal, as examples to illustrate this topic.

In his reply, the actor from Stree 2 implied that if someone is attempting to emulate the character of Devdas due to the film’s impact, then the issue lies within them. He clarified that a filmmaker merely narrates a story about a man similar to him, but does not expect everyone to become like him. Raj noted that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction was inspired by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel.

Additionally, he emphasized that numerous well-known and profitable films based on the novel have been produced in Bengal as well. He’s essentially narrating a tale about a character. He isn’t advocating that you should emulate him. In the end, his character meets his demise. However, his message is not that by following this path, you will continue to live and amass wealth. Rather, he’s warning you that if you choose this course of action, your life may be cut short prematurely.

Raj observes that as Devdas wanders the streets, his situation deteriorates because he lacks a home and a family. In his opinion, the movie portrays a love story and its consequences.

Additionally, he shared his thoughts on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s direction, saying, “I found myself captivated by ‘Animal’. I truly relished watching it.” Despite encountering certain scenes in the movie that caused him some reservations, he still appreciated the overall viewing experience.

“I loved Ranbir Kapoor in it and his performance in the film was mind-blowing,” he said, heaping praises on the actor. Raj shared that a senior critic addressing the negative discussion had opined that the filmmaker has titled it Animal. The film wasn’t named an ‘Idol man’ or ‘Aadarsh purush’ and that’s how rightly the character in the film behaves.
