Stree 2's Abhishek Banerjee admits watching 'King of comedy' Akshay Kumar's Garam Masala 10 times; reveals being on his toes while shooting with him

As an ardent film enthusiast, I must say that watching Abhishek Banerjee‘s journey with Stree 2 has been nothing short of exhilarating! His heartfelt admiration for Akshay Kumar and his comedic genius is truly inspiring. It’s not every day you see an actor who can contain his laughter while working alongside a comedy legend, let alone one who confesses to having watched Garam Masala ten times!

In a second installment of Street titled Stree 2, Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana collectively made a substantial impact at the box office. More recently, Abhishek, who assumed the role of Jana in the film, spoke openly about his experience filming a humorous scene alongside Akshay Kumar. He discussed the challenging effort to suppress his laughter during filming and revealed his deep admiration for the King of Comedy. Additionally, he mentioned that he had watched Garam Masala approximately ten times and shared an exciting story of having a jam session while shooting the scene.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Abhishek was questioned about the iconic scene he shared with Akshay Kumar and if it was tough to keep a straight face, he responded by saying that he was constantly alert whenever Akshay was around.

In a recent interview, Vedaa actor shared an exciting detail about working alongside Akshay – he looked forward to it being a fantastic collaboration since they both appreciate humor. He analogized their act to a musical “jam session,” where two musicians play guitar and tabla together. This joyful atmosphere, as he put it, was clearly visible in the final performance, and he suspects the audience found it just as entertaining.

As a connoisseur of cinematic art, I must confess that sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar, whom I regard as the reigning monarch of comedy, instilled in me an unparalleled desire to deliver my finest performance. Being a devout fan of his prolific work, I’ve long admired his pivotal roles in iconic films such as Hera Pheri, Welcome, and Awara Paagal Deewana.

During a recent conversation with ANI, Banerjee shared that director Amar Kaushik originally offered him the part of Jana in Stree. Initially, Abhishek was hesitant to accept as he usually looks for roles with a bit of swagger, much like the one he portrayed in Vedaa and being from Delhi, he found such roles more appealing.

Nevertheless, Amar discovered traits in Abhishek that he hadn’t recognized within himself – a touch of silliness and an underlying sweetness. He strongly suggested that Abhishek take on the role of Jana, emphasizing that the director was offering him a chance to bring such a delightful character to life.
