As a gamer who’s lived through countless reboots and sequels, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement when it comes to the announcement of “Freakier Friday.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning to their iconic roles is like pressing the ‘start game’ button all over again.
Jamie Lee Curtis recently spoke out about a photograph from the set of ‘Freaky Friday’ that shows her and Lindsay Lohan embracing, seemingly while wearing bathing suits, which has been widely shared by the paparazzi.
The award-winning actress commented that since other platforms shared the photo, she decided to “capitalize on the unwanted presence of a paparazzi shot within the artistic development of movie production.”
“She shared that despite our efforts to maintain secrecy and privacy surrounding our project until its launch, sneak peeks occasionally surface. One such instance is the recent image of #FREAKIERFRIDAY, which doesn’t reveal any details about the story or characters, but it does convey the joy and fun we experienced during production.”
She went on to say, “Next year, it’s the theater experience that awaits you. That’s right, I said ‘theaters.’ The venues where we gather to share an experience in the dimness, nibbling popcorn and sweets while laughing and sometimes shedding tears together. Until that time comes…”

On a Friday announcement, Curtis and Lohan revealed that they had successfully wrapped up the filming for the sequel of “Freaky Friday,” where they will once again play Tess and Anna, the roles they held dearly in the cherished 2003 movie.
Besides the actresses, several original stars such as Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are coming back for the upcoming movie, titled Freakier Friday. They’ll be joined by new faces like Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
In the next chapter, directed by Nisha Ganatra, we find ourselves catching up with Tess and Anna, who swapped bodies in the past. Now, Anna is a mother to a child of her own and is about to become a stepmother. As they work through the complexities that arise when two families blend together, an unexpected occurrence takes place: it seems that fate might have repeated itself for Tess and Anna. The storyline suggests that perhaps lightning can strike twice.
Freakier Friday is set to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
