13 Laila Majnu dialogues: ‘Tu hi dhund mujhe’ and more gut-wrenching lines

As a hopeless romantic who has lived, breathed, and cried over the timeless tale of Laila Majnu, I can confidently say that this modern retelling has left an indelible mark on my heart. The dialogues, oh the dialogues! They are as enchanting as the love story they weave.

Back in 2018, I was captivated by the initial release of Laila Majnu, and this August, I found myself drawn back to its enchanting screens once more. In this contemporary retelling of the timeless tale, Layla and Majnun, played by Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri respectively, grace us with their presence.

“Let’s venture past the mountains to savor some memorable lines from Laila Majnu!” or “Let’s explore beyond the mountains to appreciate Laila Majnu’s famous quotes.” Both options maintain the essence of the original phrase while using clear and easy-to-understand language.

13 Laila Majnu dialogues for you that will make you believe in true love

1. “I’ve been waiting for the past four years, hoping that one day everything will be alright and I’ll be happy. But now, as I find myself here, I’m content with whatever I’m doing, it feels good today, no more waiting.”

Recall the moment when Avinash Tiwary portrayed Qais Bhat transforming into Majnu, yearning for Laila’s return? It was after he had waited for her return for more than four years that he spoke these words.

2. “What do you think we are doing here? Our story has been written down. And can neither the people of this world nor ourselves change this world.” (Paraphrased)

One memorable dialogue from the story of Laila Majnu comes when Qais Bhat speaks these words to console Laila, who is distressed because of the ongoing family disputes and suggests they part ways.

3. “Bahot mehnat karta hoon smart banne ke liye. Shakal acchi nahi hai na.”

In a playful manner, Qais replies to Laila, “Perhaps I’m too clever for my own good,” when she tells him not to act so intelligent.

4. “Ta umar zinda rahega ishq humara, har ek ishq ke afsane mein zikr hoga mera ya tumhara.”

Truly, their pure love is still alive.

5. “We’ll move to the world behind our mountains, there by the riverbank we’ll build a small house. I’ll cut wood for you to cook meals. We’ll live in peace.” (Informal and friendly tone)

During their encounter, Laila inquires about a possible objection from her father regarding their union. In response, Qais voices his aspiration to reside amidst the mountains with his beloved, Laila, and shares his vision for their harmonious life together.

6. “Wait a little more, wait for the divorce or the waiting period, either way, I’m still waiting. Just keep waiting, this waiting will drive me mad.” (Informal)

After Laila requests Qais to be patient with her longer due to her impending divorce, these scenes unfold from Qais’ perspective in a voiceover, as he increasingly waits, waits, and waits for Laila, eventually transforming into the character of Majnu.

7. “Jaa main nahi aata, ab tu hi dhund mujhe.”

At the wedding, Qais unexpectedly shows up and requests Laila to accompany him instead. But Laila firmly declines his offer. In response, Qais announces that he won’t pursue her any longer and departs.

8. “Pyar ka problem kya hai na ki jab tak us main pagalpan na ho…Woh pyaar hi nahin.”

And Qais Bhat is the prime example of being madly in love with Laila.

9. “Sunn maine tujhe flirt karne ke liye apna number nahin diya…bas janna chahti thi ki paagal log hote kaise hain.”

At the beginning of their romantic journey, they exchanged contact details during the first part of the movie. As Qais tried his charm, Laila expressed curiosity about what it’s like to be around eccentric individuals.

10. “Mountains enchant me greatly. Every time I approach them, I wonder what lies beyond…I won’t abandon it; one day I will venture there to see what lies ahead.”

Did you recall the moment when Qais and Laila had their initial outing atop a hill? When Laila inquired if this was his usual spot, he shared his captivation with the mountain. Qais expressed his desire to traverse it one day.

11. “It seems you’re planning to part ways. It’s really that simple, isn’t it? How do I do it? What does this ‘break up’ mean exactly? Does it mean you’ll leave here or I’ll be the one to go…I always seem to be the one leaving.”

In the given scene, Laila suggests that it might be best for them to part ways, but Qais doesn’t grasp this concept because he solely values love and isn’t familiar with the idea of separation.

12. “You are lying, Qais Bhat. You’re lying. There is nothing beyond the hills. Your world is a lie, and I will no longer be a part of it.” (paraphrased in an informal, conversational manner)

At Laila’s wedding, unexpectedly, Qais arrives. This leads to Laila expressing her belief that there is no existence beyond the mountains, considering it an illusion or falsehood. Both Laila and Qais realize that their perceptions of the world were misguided compared to the actual reality they encountered.

13. Meri saanson mein, mujh mein, tujh mein, har jagah bas ek hi naam…La-ilaha.”

As a devoted follower, I find myself transitioning past the stage where I wait, and it seems to me that she, as Majnu, has taken up residence deep within my very soul. At every turn in my humble abode, I can picture her presence, like a gentle whisper echoing through the corners of my home.
