As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for superheroes and a deep-rooted admiration for the intricate world of comics, I am thrilled to hear about Dan Fogler stepping into the Batcave, or rather, the stage, to play Michael Uslan in “The Boy Who Loved Batman”. Having grown up during the 80s, I remember the electrifying impact that Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman had on me, and it seems Dan Fogler shares the same sentiment.
Dan Fogler is stepping out of the Wizarding World and into the Batcave.
Actor from Fantastic Beasts movie will portray Michael Uslan, a seasoned Batman executive producer, in a stage play inspired by Uslan’s 2011 memoir “The Boy Who Loved Batman”. The Nederlander Worldwide Productions is one of the companies supporting this production.
2019 saw the release of his autobiography, which detailed his transformation from a college student teaching comic books at Indiana University in Bloomington to spending summers at DC Comics. After attending law school, he eventually found employment at United Artists. His career path subsequently led him to witness firsthand the burgeoning era of comic book films, with a particular focus on those centered around Batman.
Uslan has been acknowledged as being involved in every movie based on Batman or connected to Batman, such as the Joker and Justice League films, since Tim Burton’s 1989 debut. This connection goes back to a deal he and former MGM executive Benjamin Melniker made in 1979 to purchase the film rights for Batman, at a time when Warner Bros. did not yet recognize its potential value.
“Dan’s exceptional skills, keen comedic sense, strong stage presence, and deep, passionate fandom make him an ideal choice for portraying Michael Uslan’s character. As Uslan humorously puts it, ‘Dan is the perfect actor to tackle the undeniably difficult and intricate role.’ From the moment he received the script, Dan has shown an uncanny knack for understanding the material, and Uslan expresses his excitement that Dan accepted the offer to embark on this journey with us.”
The performance is set to take place from October 1st to November 10th at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, located in Tampa, Florida. Ultimately, the aim is to bring it to Broadway.
“Fogler is eagerly looking forward to returning to the stage and discussing not just one, but two of his favorite topics: Batman and comic books. As a 12-year-old in 1989, watching Batman on screen, with its authentic portrayal of the dark and brooding character, was a transformative moment for him. The experience was electrifying, and he can’t wait to share the tale of how it all unfolded.”
Fogler boasts a background on Broadway, having played the character William Barfée in the production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee“. This part brought him a Tony Award in 2005.
“The play titled ‘The Boy Who Loved Batman‘ caters to a wide audience, reflecting the current pop culture trends,” Fogler notes. “Expect laughter, tears, and an increased affection for Batman by the end.” (or)
