As a seasoned crypto investor with a decade of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu when I hear about yet another cryptocurrency-related Discord hack. It seems like these platforms are becoming the Wild West of the digital world, where every outlaw is looking to make a quick buck at the expense of unsuspecting investors.
Polygon reported that its Discord community channel has been hacked, sparking concerns among users.
Mudit Gupta, the head of information security at Polygon, verified the occurrence of a security incident and urged users to avoid clicking on any links that might be circulating within the channel until the issue has been fully addressed.
Warning: Avoid clicking on any links within the 0xPolygon Discord group for now, as it’s currently under our control and we are working to regain ownership.

Despite the fact that accounts boasting special privileges were equipped with two-factor authentication, this occurrence underscores the potential vulnerability of platforms such as Discord.
A number of people have swiftly shared warnings on social platforms regarding a fraudulent scheme. It appears that these con artists posed as customer service representatives to deceive individuals seeking assistance. One user claimed they were prevented from warning the community after attempting to do so, which complicates efforts to mitigate the impact.
The gravity of the breach became even more evident when another user, ValidatorK, reported losing $150,000 worth of Ether (ETH). This happened after the user clicked on what seemed like an official announcement on the compromised Discord server.
Hi there at 0xPolygon! I regretfully lost a substantial amount, approximately $150,000 worth of Ethereum from my pool, following an announcement made in your official Discord channel. It’s puzzling to me why the Discord hacking incident hasn’t been acknowledged on X yet. Could you provide some clarity on this matter and explain how you plan to take responsibility for this unfortunate event?

However, this is not the first time a Discord server related to cryptocurrency has been hacked.
As a seasoned cryptocurrency user with several years of experience under my belt, I can’t stress enough the importance of staying vigilant when it comes to online security and scams. In my own journey, I have unfortunately fallen victim to phishing attacks on platforms like Arbitrum Discord earlier this year and Gnus.AI in May, losing a substantial amount of money due to these unfortunate incidents. These experiences serve as a stark reminder that cybercriminals are constantly finding new ways to exploit users’ trust, and it’s essential to be proactive in protecting ourselves from such attacks. I urge everyone, especially those actively participating in the cryptocurrency space, to prioritize security measures like two-factor authentication, regularly updating software, and double-checking links and messages before clicking on them. Let’s make sure we don’t become easy targets for these malicious actors.
As a crypto investor, I can’t help but feel uneasy about the recent security breach hitting Polygon. What makes it even more concerning is that this incident occurs just days before their planned network upgrade on September 4. This upgrade aims to transition from MATIC tokens to POL tokens, which are designed to strengthen Polygon’s expanding ecosystem of blockchains.
