LEGO Reveals Plans for First-Ever 'Super Mario: Mario Kart' Sets

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the news about LEGO’s collaboration with Nintendo’s Mario Kart has sent shockwaves through the gaming community. The idea of physically building and racing my favorite characters from Mario Kart is nothing short of mind-blowing!

At Gamescom 2024, there was a thrilling unveiling by LEGO – their initial line of Super Mario: Mario Kart building sets. This marks a pioneering partnership between the well-known toy maker and Nintendo’s cherished racing series.

The freshly launched six LEGO sets based on “Mario Kart” inject a novel perspective into the world of LEGO’s “Super Mario,” enabling enthusiasts to experience the thrill of “Mario Kart” right at home. Featuring popular characters such as Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad, and Baby Mario, these sets are meticulously crafted to merge the exhilaration of digital gaming with the tangible fun of traditional play.

Starting January 1, 2025, these collections offer an engaging building process featuring adjustable go-karts, interactive elements, and colorful characters. Each collection comes with distinct characteristics: a balloon battle between Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, or the chance to personalize karts at Toad’s Garage. These sets cater to fans aged 7 and above, with varying piece counts between 133 and 823 items.

Simon Kent, Design Director at LEGO, showed his enthusiasm about the upcoming launch by saying, “We are thrilled beyond belief to inject some extra speed into our LEGO Super Mario world with these new Mario Kart sets. We can hardly wait for builders to create their own Mario Kart races right at home.”

Besides introducing new sets based on the popular game, “Mario Kart”, LEGO also unveiled three additional sets inspired by “Animal Crossing”. This move is aimed at broadening their collection of merchandise that draws inspiration from video games. The price range for the “Super Mario: Mario Kart” sets will vary between $10 USD and $80 USD, with pre-orders opening on LEGO’s official website starting January 2025.
