As an ardent God of War fanatic with countless hours spent in the Norse realms, I can confidently assert that the skills and techniques detailed in this guide are nothing short of game-changers. These strategic maneuvers have not only elevated my gaming experience but also given me a newfound appreciation for the depth and complexity of Santa Monica Studio’s masterpiece.
As I delve into the epic world of God of War: Ragnarok, it’s clear that there’s a plethora of potent abilities and skills at my disposal. If you’re aiming for the mightiest Kratos, however, some skills are indispensable. Here are some top-tier abilities to prioritize early in your gaming adventure.
Best Skills to unlock early
There are a few factors that we have kept in mind while selecting the best skills for both Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos that you can unlock in the early game of God of War Ragnarok, most with Weapon Upgrade 1 or 2. These factors are increasing sub-stats while getting an attack or skill, long-range attacks, short-range AoE, increasing Elemental attack damage, and some heavy hitters.
Leviathan Axe
Here are the different Leviathan Axe skills you must focus on unlocking during the early game:
Permafrost
As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but sing praises for the Permafrost skill! It’s an absolute game-changer for combat-struggling players like myself, who often find themselves mindlessly tapping the default attack button instead of chaining combos in battle. With this skill at your side, you’ll be weaving together impressive attack sequences in no time!
Unlocking Permafrost allows for swift Melee attacks that won’t deplete the Leviathan Axe’s power while simultaneously causing Frost damage on each strike. Additionally, it enhances the Luck and Runic stats when activated.
Vengeful Sickle I
The “Vengeful Sickle” is a remote ability that allows you to hurl the Leviathan Axe towards an adversary, resulting in repeated spins and slices for numerous strikes.
With the addition of Blades of Chaos’s Vaporize Frost and Rushing Chaos abilities, you can swiftly deplete an enemy’s healthbar in a flash.
Freezing Throw II
The enhanced version of Freezing Throw II introduces a surrounding frost explosion, which can be linked with Chaos Blade strikes when the Vaporize Frost ability is activated, resulting in increased damage to adversaries.
Extinguish Flame
Using the Leviathan Axe’s assaults on foes afflicted with the Burning effect of the Chaos Blade increases your damage output with this Extinguish Flame skill.
Glacial Rake
Among the many useful abilities I enjoy employing in God of War Ragnarok is the powerful technique called “Icy Claw Swipe.” This move pulls out icy spikes from the ground, which then launch forward to pummel enemies relentlessly with intense Cold damage.
Serpent’s Snare
A powerful ability that swiftly freezes a cluster of opponents, called Serpent’s Snare. When this skill is used on a vulnerable foe, it inflicts heavy damage and hurls the enemy in your chosen direction. Upon collision, an area-of-effect Frost blast occurs, knocking back additional enemies nearby.
Blades Of Chaos
Here are the different Chaos Blade skills you must focus on unlocking during the early game:
Vaporize Frost
Similar to how the “Extinguish Flame” ability works with the Levithan Axe, you can activate “Melt Frozen Foes” to inflict greater damage on enemies afflicted by the Frost status.
Immolation
Using the Immolation ability, you can execute multiple melee attacks swiftly without losing the power-up or causing Burn damage to your Blades of Chaos, while simultaneously increasing both your Luck and Runic attack effectiveness during its activation.
Blazing Explosion I
“Blazing Explosion I” is an outstanding long-range ability for inflicting substantial damage on a cluster of enemies while also applying the Burn status. It’s an advanced form of “Blazing Surge,” where you target the Chaos Blade, then maintain pressure on the R2 button to launch both blades and a fiery energy wave. This results in an explosive impact causing damage and inflicting heavy Burn effect.”
Given that the skill takes a moderate amount of time to activate, it’s advisable to enhance its abilities by activating the Skill Mod. Furthermore, using a Protection Mod token will help minimize damage received from adversaries during the execution of the attack.
Rising Chaos
As a fearless gamer, I can tell you that Rising Chaos is my go-to move when it comes to taking down a single foe. This attack lets me dash straight toward an opponent, unleashing a flurry of swift spinning blows that strike them repeatedly.
Hyperion Grapple I
The “Hyperion Grapple I” is an excellent maneuver that enables swift positioning on the battlefield, either closing in on adversaries or managing annoying aerial opponents who can be quite frustrating.
While executing the Hyperion Pull, pressing the R1 button initiates the Hyperion Grappling Move I, propelling you towards earthbound adversaries where they’ll be momentarily stunned upon collision, or it slams aerial opponents back to the ground.
