It’s The End Of An Era As Disney World Cuts Ties With Bill Nye The Science Guy After Nearly 30 Years

It’s The End Of An Era As Disney World Cuts Ties With Bill Nye The Science Guy After Nearly 30 Years

As a long-time Disney enthusiast who grew up with the magic of the parks and the enlightening presence of Bill Nye The Science Guy, I must say, it’s bittersweet to bid farewell to this iconic figure at Walt Disney World.

After D23, there’s a lot to be thrilled about in relation to Disney Parks. Over the coming years, numerous new attractions are planned for Disney World. The recent news that construction is set to start soon on the Tropical Americas section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom has many Disney World enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the changes.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been frequenting Dinoland U.S.A. for years, but the recent announcement that it’s going to get some fresh attractions themed around Encanto and Indiana Jones has me pretty excited! Still, it’s a bittersweet moment because one timeless attraction – Dinosaur – will have to make way for the newcomers. And when the time comes for Dinosaur to shut down, it’ll mark the end of an almost three-decade run for Bill Nye The Science Guy at Walt Disney World. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but I can’t wait to see what’s next!

It’s sad when moments like this happen, and Bill Nye is a pretty iconic figure for many who grew up with him. It will certainly be sad to see him go.

Bill Nye The Science Guy Had An Impressive Run At Walt Disney World

Bill Nye’s ties with Disney extend back to the 1990s, when his own TV show was created by the company. This could explain why, in the late ’90s, Bill Nye, the renowned educator, was present at three distinct locations within Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, two of those attractions no longer exist, and as a Twitter user noted, the remaining one is now under threat of closure.

1996 marked a significant transformation for Epcot’s Universe of Energy attraction, which was rebranded as Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Although Ellen DeGeneres became the show’s namesake, Bill Nye played an equally important role in the video and animatronic journey. The narrative followed Nye guiding DeGeneres through the evolution of various energy sources. The production spanned over two decades, surpassing the original attraction’s lifespan, before eventually being replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

In 1998, two additional attractions were incorporated featuring Nye. At DisneyQuest within Disney Springs, visitors could encounter him as a character within the CyberSpace Mountain game. Similarly, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, he was included in the Dinosaur attraction, providing guests with interesting facts about the dinosaur species.

In 2017, DisneyQuest shut down to pave the way for the short-lived NBA Experience. Consequently, Dinosaur became the only location where you could find Bill Nye within the parks. However, it’s inevitable that eventually, Bill Nye will no longer be present there at all.

Dinosaur’s Days Are Numbered At Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

When Disney officially unveiled that the Tropical Americas section in Animal Kingdom’s Disney’s Animal Kingdom was replacing Dinoland U.S.A., it became clear that Dinosaur was no longer part of the plans. True to form, this year at D23, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that construction on the new area would start shortly, implying that Dinosaur’s days were numbered.

It’s uncertain when exactly Dinoland USA and Bill Nye’s attraction will leave Disney World, as D’Amaro has hinted that the Tropical Americas expansion will take place in stages. This means that even if construction starts soon, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Dinosaur attraction will shut down on the very day work begins. Instead, fans might have a bit more time to bid farewell to the Dinosaur attraction during the construction period.

It’s anticipated that the structure housing the Dinosaur exhibit will transition into the locale for the upcoming Indiana Jones adventure. Remarkably, this fresh attraction is set to employ the same underlying ride system as the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland. Although it will be a unique tale and likely incorporate cutting-edge technology, the design seems to follow similar principles.

It’s possible that Disney Parks might incorporate Bill Nye into one of their attractions again somehow. There are rumors that a new version of Test Track at Epcot is coming up next year, and it’s said to include aspects from the original World of Motion attraction. If there’s a focus on the scientific aspect of our world’s development, Bill Nye could be the perfect person to guide us through this history.
