'Inside Out 2' Is the First Animated Film To Hit $1 Billion USD at Global Box Office

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for animated movies, I can confidently say that the success of Inside Out 2 is nothing short of phenomenal! It’s like watching a pixelated character level up to the max in an epic RPG game, and it’s happening right before our eyes.

I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has smashed through the $1 billion mark at international box offices, making it one of a select dozen films to reach this incredible milestone! Here’s the best part: It’s now the first ever animated film to break the billion dollar barrier. What an achievement for our beloved sequel!

Based on Variety’s report, a total of 55 films have managed to earn over a billion dollars worldwide. However, only 12 of these movies achieved this milestone solely from their international box office earnings. Interestingly, despite Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King grossing $1.1 billion USD, it was categorized as a live-action film instead of a computer-animated one.

The worldwide success of “Inside Out 2” was undeniably noticeable. In various international markets, it made impressive earnings – $60.8 million USD in South Korea, $62.6 million USD in France, $72.7 million USD in the U.K., $80 million USD in Brazil, and a whopping $102.2 million USD in Mexico. Across the globe, the sequel was already proving to be an immense box office triumph. Notably, it has become the highest-grossing film of the year, earning a staggering $1.649 billion USD worldwide, with $1.002 billion USD from foreign sales and $646.3 million USD domestically. This summer, Disney’s blockbuster lineup has been particularly strong, with hits like “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Alien: Romulus.”
