As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who grew up with the roar of wrestling matches echoing through my neighborhood, I can wholeheartedly say that Elias Toufexis and I share a unique bond. Our love for these two universes has not only fueled our passion but also shaped our lives in ways we could never have imagined.
The connection between Star Trek and wrestling may not be immediately apparent to many, but for those in the know, it’s a fascinating link. Characters like Picard and Sisko were part of the wrestling team at Starfleet Academy, and the series has occasionally featured WWE stars in minor roles. I, personally, am a fan of both, and I was thrilled to discover a fellow enthusiast in Elias Toufexis from Discovery. He graciously shared his ideas about wrestling superstars he’d like to see make appearances in future Star Trek series.
You can always go back to your Paramount+ subscription and rewatch episodes where Paul Wight, also known as “Big Show”, picked up T’Pol effortlessly or when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had a fight against Seven of Nine in the arena. It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a wrestling appearance in Star Trek, so I thought it would be interesting to inquire about who could potentially be the next wrestler to make an appearance while we commemorate the release of Discovery’s final season on physical media.
WWE Fan And Star Trek Star Elias Toufexis Had Some Great Ideas For WWE Superstar Cameos
Including WWE superstars in a TV series can be challenging due to their busy schedules. They tour across the country for most of the year, but occasionally they may get time off to appear on shows like “The Masked Singer” or make television appearances. However, it’s unlikely that a wrestler would become a main character on a show. This franchise often features celebrity guest stars and actors, and when Elias Toufexis was brainstorming characters for TopMob, he made sure to consider this.
“Jade Cargill seems perfect for the role of a tough, formidable bounty hunter or Klingon-like character. Rhea Ripley, who resembles a Star Trek character, would also fit well in such a scenario, perhaps as an Orion. Lastly, JD McDonagh, given his prominent forehead, would be a great choice for any character.”
1. JD McDonagh was given a pretty strong jab at the end there, but since the Monday Night Raw commentary team often brings it up, it’s not exactly new. Interestingly, Toufexis mentioned three names I hadn’t thought of before, and he’s spot on with each one. I urgently need bounty hunter Jade Cargill to make an appearance, and Rhea Ripley seems like the ideal Orion for the show. Yes, add some ridges to McDonagh’s forehead, and he’d resemble any common alien we’ve seen in past Star Trek episodes.
I’m Pulling For Star Trek Fan Cody Rhodes To Appear
As we discussed potential WWE superstars who might show up, I’m particularly hoping for Cody Rhodes, the current undisputed champion, to make an appearance. I’m a big fan of his, and given that he’s also a Star Trek enthusiast, I think he would do a fantastic job in the franchise, much like Elias Toufexis who started his journey to the role due to growing up on the same street as William Shatner, which ignited his fandom.
Beyond just being a fan, Cody Rhodes has dabbled in acting for television shows as well. Some may recall his brief appearance on Arrow, where he squared off with star Stephen Amell in a wrestling match. The fight was entertaining, but what truly left an impression on me was Rhodes’ performance in the episode. I’d be thrilled to see him take on roles such as a monarch of a country or a Starfleet member. Concealing his distinctive neck tattoo could potentially pose a problem without a collar, so I’ll need to delve into the lore to find out if Cody Rhodes’ iconic skull design can be made suitable for Star Trek. Given that Chakotay’s face tattoo didn’t hinder his Starfleet career, it’s not impossible to imagine!
Currently, Star Trek is experiencing a pause in its production schedule. It would be great if the people responsible are jotting down ideas and reaching out to Triple H to possibly feature a WWE star in an upcoming episode. Regardless of who it might be, I’d be thrilled to see it happen. Why not take it a step further and have a character enjoy a WrestleMania simulation on the holodeck, inviting all the WWE stars over?
