Carrie Preston's Husband (Fallout And Lost's) Michael Emerson Would Love To Guest Star On Elsbeth, But He Has One Condition

As a gamer who has been following TV shows for decades and witnessed the rise of Carrie Preston’s iconic character Elsbeth Tullman, I eagerly await the premiere of Season 2. The thought of seeing Preston back on screen again is simply exhilarating, and the addition of her husband Michael Emerson to the cast feels like the cherry on top of an already delicious sundae.

After the revival of “Elsbeth,” I’ve been eagerly anticipating the premiere of Season 2, scheduled for 2024, and all the exciting twists it may bring. The spinoff of “The Good Wife” was a smash hit on CBS last season, with Carrie Preston reprising her beloved title character, and I can hardly wait to see her return. In addition, the series has already gathered an impressive roster of guest stars, and this trend is expected to continue in Season 2. What makes it even more exciting is that Preston’s husband, Michael Emerson, is planning to join the cast, which I’m thrilled about. However, he has one stipulation for his involvement.

Since 1998, Preston and Emerson have been married, and they’ve teamed up on multiple projects such as Lost and Person of Interest. Given that Elsbeth appears in every episode, it seems fitting for them to join forces once more on this project.

This information becomes particularly significant as he recently concluded a four-season stint on the series “Evil,” which was co-created by the couple, Robert and Michelle King. During a conversation with Collider, Emerson voiced his desire for a guest role in his spouse’s show, but he has one prerequisite:

Obviously, I can’t play the villain — it’s too on the nose.

On numerous instances, Emerson assumed the role of the antagonist. When he became part of the cast of Lost as Ben Linus in the second season, he initially portrayed the adversary, later transforming into a character who leaned towards being an accomplice.

In the show, he portrayed Dr. Leland Townsend, a hidden practitioner of the dark arts and a forensic psychologist with an unhealthy fascination towards persuading others into performing wicked deeds, under the guise of his profession.

Beyond those facts, he portrayed Siggi Wilzig in the series ‘Fallout’. Although not inherently villainous on the show, his work involved enigmatic research which eventually led him to leave his position.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed he’s dabbled in some roles that leaned towards the sinister side of things. It’s no wonder, then, that he seems hesitant about adding to that part of his acting resume.

If Michael Emerson isn’t playing the killer on “Elsbeth”, there’s a possibility that he might take up a recurring role with a more significant impact. He could be portrayed as an assistant to the NYPD or even Elsbeth, offering support in some capacity. This would depend on his availability.

It’s possible he might take on the role of the character who meets an untimely end. Yet, this scenario seems less enjoyable, considering that his scenes with Carrie Preston wouldn’t be as prevalent. Nevertheless, it could add an intriguing twist if the plot centered around him as a central mystery.

The course of events as the story unfolds could determine everything, but there’s a chance they’ve already thought of some suggestions for what they might do together.

In terms of Preston’s ideal guest stars for the show Elsbeth, Emerson was undeniably her first choice. It’s evident that both parties are eager to collaborate again on this project, but it might not be a walk in the park. Coordinating schedules is just one hurdle; even if they align, there needs to be a suitable role for Emerson that he would be enthusiastic about. More specifically, he’s keen on avoiding another villainous character, such as a murderer.

Given Preston and Emerson’s shared interest in landing the guest starring role, it seems likely that it will materialize eventually, though perhaps not immediately. Patient fans can catch up on Elsbeth in its second season when it airs on Thursday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Until then, they can indulge themselves with Season 1 by subscribing to Paramount+ for streaming access.
