How to defeat Elder Jinchi in Black Myth: Wukong

As a seasoned gamer with years of combat under my belt, I must say that the Elder Jinchi battle in Black Myth: Wukong is a formidable foe indeed! After scouring the land to ring the ancient bells and unlock this optional boss, I was transported to his Ancient Guanyin Temple.

In the game Black Myth: Wukong, the battle against Elder Jinchi – the initial secret boss – commences following a ceremony you carry out. Although this optional fight might resemble the Wandering Wight, it pushes your tactical intellect and combat abilities to their absolute limits.

Today’s tutorial offers essential tactics for overcoming the formidable boss you encounter. Keep reading to uncover the secrets!

Unlocking the Battle

Instead of finding the Elder Jinchi like other bosses you’ve encountered before, this time, in Chapter 1, there’s a secret procedure to locate him. Players need to activate an old ritual and then hunt down three ancient bells hidden within the chapter, which they must ring.

  • First Bell: After defeating Guangzhi in the Forest of Wolves.
  • Second Bell: After beating Guangmao in the Bamboo Groove Area.
  • Third Bell: After defeating the Whiteclad Noble near the Marsh of The White Mist Keeper’s Shine, take a hidden path to ring this last bell.

Once the bells have been rung thrice, the player will find themselves mysteriously transported to Elder Jinchi’s venerable Guanyin Temple.

As you step into the Ancient Guanyin Temple, make sure to visit the Keeper’s Shrine first to put on the Serpentscale Armor and grasp the Twin Serpent Staff. These items are essential for enhancing your defenses and attacks when facing Elder Jinchi.

Old Master Jinchi’s fighting technique is characterized by strong, albeit deliberate strikes. Keep an eye out for these signature moves:

  • Palm Force: This is a long-range attack consisting of a unique display of gesture animations—this is also its indicator. Players can counter back with a strong impact by timing the dodge with the attack perfectly.
  • Hand Sweeps and Head Smash: Albeit slightly less dangerous than Elder Jinchi’s other moves, it still requires a quick side-to-side motion to avoid damage.
  • Foot Stomp: A foot stomp is exactly what the name suggests. The radius typically moves in a straight line towards you. Dodge to the side to counter.
  • Exploding Pilgrims: Jinchi commands the pilgrims within the temple to charge and explode. Dispatch them swiftly to prevent damage.
  • Ground Burst: This area-of-effect attack involves multiple ground explosions. It is usually safer to sprint away rather than dodge in the gaps. Furthermore, sprinting takes less stamina than a dodge.

When the boss’s health level drops below 50%, he becomes increasingly hostile and employs intricate strategies to catch you off guard. For example, he gains the ability to hover (moving in a new way) and summons minions to aid him in healing. It is crucial to focus on defeating these minions first, as their presence clearly benefits him.
