Dunk City Dynasty is for NBA Street fans on the move

As someone who once dedicated countless hours to NBA Street Volume 2, stepping into Dunk City Dynasty feels like a blast from the past – a vibrant, fast-paced reincarnation of the streetball spirit I hold dear. Though my wallet may cringe at the thought of another cartoonish LeBron James, two nickels are still better than none!

In my youth, I invested countless hours into NBA Street Volume 2, leaving behind few other activities. This series, however, has yet to rekindle the enchantment it once held. Still, I remain optimistic, keeping a glimmer of hope that one day it might again.

At Gamescom, I had the opportunity to preview an initial version of Dunk City Dynasty. In a brief 3-versus-3 skirmish, I got a taste of its vibrant and speedy gameplay. Although I personally prefer playing with a controller, this title manages to maintain the lively essence it promises.

If I got a penny every time I noticed an exaggerated depiction of LeBron James in a video game, I would have earned two pennies, which seems odd because it’s occurred twice.

In addition to his character in MultiVersus, King James is present in this setting that feels more like home for him. Thanks to the NBPA license, he’s not by himself – famous players such as Steph Curry and Kevin Durant join him too.

Instead of the grandiose stadiums of reality shows, games occur in vibrant, crowded arenas filled with enthusiastic fans, complete with thrilling slam-dunks. Participants gather other participants, balance their strengths, and personalize them using outrageous new wardrobes.

The 11v11 match type is quick to get into and only lasts a few minutes, and while I can’t speak for the monetisation as yet, I’m excited to give it another go (preferably on iPad).
