As a film enthusiast who has grown up watching Bollywood movies, I have to say that each of these films holds a special place in my heart for different reasons. However, if I had to pick one that resonated with me the most, it would be “Barfi!”

If you’re one who enjoys this genre with a bit of indulgence, we’ve compiled a list of love triangle movies that are available for streaming on Netflix.

8 love triangle movies on Netflix that live in our hearts rent-free

1. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1995)

Karan Johar’s movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is undeniably legendary, boasting an exceptional cast and a captivating narrative that stands out among romantic films with a love triangle plot. The heart-wrenching line “Mera pehla pyaar adhura reh gaya, Rifat bi” still leaves us in pieces. In this film, Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul who is in love with Tina (Rani Mukerji), while his close friend Anjali (Kajol) harbors unrequited feelings for him.

Because it’s a film directed by Karan Johar, he ultimately reconciled Rahul and Anjali to balance out our tears, yet we’re still mourning the character of Aman, portrayed by Salman Khan.

2. Dostana (2008)

2008 saw the release of a movie that I can’t get enough of – Dostana, directed by the talented Tarun Mansukhani. This film was brimming with style and coolness, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite romantic comedies. The star-studded cast included John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Kirron Kher, and Bobby Deol, to name a few. I simply can’t get enough of this captivating love story that keeps me coming back for more!

The competitive courtship between Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, both openly expressing their interest in Priyanka Chopra, presented more than just a series of blunders; it was an amusing spectacle to behold.

3. Kal Ho Naa Ho (2004)

Next up is Kal Ho Naa Ho, a movie that permanently resides within our hearts for free. This film was directed by Nikkhil Advani and showcases the main characters portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Saif Ali Khan. We haven’t made our mind yet about who is more captivating, but the love triangle in the plot undeniably tugs at heartstrings.

As the movie unfolds, it becomes clear that a romantic connection between Aman and Naina wasn’t necessarily destined. Instead, Aman serves as Cupid, facilitating the union of Naina and Rohit. In the poignant final scene where Aman sacrifices himself to convey his feelings through Rohit’s diary, there are numerous moments that continue to resonate with viewers.

4. Student Of The Year (2012)

Karan Johar skillfully creates emotional turmoil through his heart-wrenching love triangles, and his next masterpiece is Student Of The Year, released in 2012. This movie was the launch pad for Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan into the world of Bollywood. The film not only stirs up a wave of nostalgia but also offers a delightful, endearing love story that can be enjoyed at any time.

In the movie, Shanaya (Alia) and Rohan (Varun) appear to be a carefree couple, but things take an unexpected turn once Abhimanyu (Sidharth) becomes part of the narrative.

5. Lagaan (2000)

Lagaan is most famously associated with the unforgettable “teen guna lagaan” scene where Bhuvan prevents his villagers from having to pay a large tax by beating the British cricket team. However, another significant storyline in the film unfolds as well: the blossoming romance between Rachel Shelley’s character, Elizabeth, and Aamir Khan’s Bhuvan – who is also pursued by Gauri, portrayed by Gracy Singh.

Typically, only one character is denied a joyful conclusion, and in Ashutosh Gowariker’s film, that role fell to Elizabeth. However, she left for England with cherished memories of the times she shared with Bhuvan, filled with happiness and warmth.

6. Barfi! (2012)

Among the most endearing films ever created, undeniably stands Anurag Basu’s Barfi. This captivating film features Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Ileana D’Cruz, boasting a devoted fanbase. In an unexpected turn of events, the movie presents a heartwarming romance between a deaf-mute man and an autistic woman. The depth and intensity of their affection was so profound that Ileana’s character felt compelled to withdraw from it. Just hearing “Phir le aaya dil” (Bring back my heart) makes us yearn to rewatch this enchanting tale!

7. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994)

In many beloved romantic dramas, the iconic Shah Rukh Khan deserves recognition for his participation. One of these films, released in 1994 under Kundan Shah’s direction, showcased Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Deepak Tijori, and others in key roles. As Sunil, SRK portrayed a man who was hopelessly smitten with Anna, who was already in love with Chris. In an effort to capture her heart, Sunil resorted to using every trick at his disposal. Desperate to create confusion between Anna and Chris, he even attempted to sow seeds of misunderstanding.

8. Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017)

Anyone who appreciates cinema should consider adding Bareilly Ki Barfi to their must-watch list. Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, this film stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, and Kriti Sanon. The movie’s small-town ambiance enhances its captivating narrative quality.

Following multiple unsuccessful encounters with potential suitors, Bitti embarks on a quest to find Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar), the enigmatic author of the book she adores. Intriguingly, she turns to Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana), the publisher of the book, for assistance. What makes this tale captivating is the revelation that Chirag himself penned the book!
