According to Judge Alexandre de Moraes, it has been ordered that access to X be blocked in Brazil by the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) within the following 24 hours.
Moreover, the judge has ordered Apple and Google to take down X from their app marketplaces within the next five days. Additionally, the judge has set a daily fine of R$50,000 ($8,000) on any individual in Brazil found attempting to circumvent the ban through VPNs or similar methods.
As someone who has lived and worked in Brazil for several years, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that social media platforms can have on society. In my opinion, Moraes’ criticism of a major platform for promoting a “lawless land” is not unfounded. The spread of hate speech and anti-democratic content on these sites can be alarming, especially when it incites violence or undermines the democratic process.
