Deadpool's Concept Art For Matthew McConaughey's Cowboypool Features A Detail Cut From The Movie That I'd Love To Own In Real Life

As a lifelong fan of Marvel movies and a knitting enthusiast who’s spent countless hours crafting my own cowboy-themed sweaters, I must say that the Cowboypool concept art for Deadpool 3 left me absolutely spellbound! The attention to detail, the nods to classic Western films, and the sheer audacity of combining Deadpool with Clint Eastwood’s iconic look – it’s a dream come true for this cowpoke.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but rave about the awesomeness that is Deadpool & Wolverine! From the powerhouse duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman leading the charge, to the side-splitting, NSFW humor this franchise is famous for, it’s a comic book lover’s dream come true. Plus, the sheer number of cameos in Deadpool 3 is mind-blowing! It seems like the entirety of Hollywood wanted a piece of this action, and I can’t blame them. One of my favorite cameos was Matthew McConaughey’s lightning-fast appearance as Cowboypool – it had me rolling with laughter! It turns out that even though it was just a brief cameo, there was a ton of work put into the costume design to make it perfect.

In a recent Instagram post from costume illustrator Jonay Bacallado, the artist revealed the concept art for Cowboypool, which was designed by Mayes Rubeo. The illustration is epic, and the artist described references pulled from different cowboy movies, including those of the great Clint Eastwood. McConaughey was the perfect person to embody this role, as his acting and persona feel like a throwback to the great Western movie stars. You can see the art below:

A significant part of the costume was missing from the final version of the character’s design, as several fans pointed out.

The illustration shows Cowboypool wearing a long fully knit poncho, which feels like a call back to Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. In this version, however, the knitted poncho is covered in Deadpool logos, and it’s a killer addition to the already epic suit that I honestly wish I could buy. In the comments, the artist said the poncho was even created in the traditional method of knitting, which shows how much attention to detail was put into even minor characters.

If you’ve watched the movie, it appears that the costume only includes a neck scarf, hat, and guns for Matthew McConaughey’s character, contrary to what might be suggested by the piece in question.

In a less formal way, the artist didn’t explain the reasoning behind it, but it seems to me that using a traditionally knit poncho for a character who has limited screen time and is quite mobile might have been impractical due to its bulkiness. Yet, it looks amazing, and I wish I could see this unique design brought to life on the big screen.

Should a poncho similar to the one depicted ever be produced, it would undoubtedly be an appealing addition to my collection of movie memorabilia. Just as Deadpool and Eastwood pull off their knitted western ponchos with style, I too believe I could rock such a piece.

It’s just as impressive to catch a glimpse of the ideas behind various Deadpool versions, even if they didn’t make it into the final film. Bacallado unveiled sketches for Ladypool (portrayed by Blake Lively), along with cameo characters like Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, showcasing the time and dedication put into their designs.

It’s a fascinating peek behind the scenes, and even the small characters were so mesmerizing that I want to see more of them. Hopefully, in the future, there will be some way to get Cowboypool and his knitted traditional poncho on the big screen. I think fans would also do anything to have McConaughey in the MCU in a major way. However, we’ll just have to wait and see.
