Missy Elliott, Questlove, Ludacris and More Remember Fatman Scoop: “His Impact Is Huge”

As a gamer who grew up in the golden era of hip-hop, the news of Fatman Scoop’s passing has left me feeling like I just lost one of my favorite DJs at the club. His energy was unmatched, and his ability to hype up a crowd was simply legendary. From “Be Faithful” to “Lose Control,” his beats and vocals have been the soundtrack to countless late-night gaming sessions and dance-offs with friends.

Music greats like Missy Elliott, Questlove, and Ludacris have honored Fatman Scoop, the renowned Grammy-winning DJ and stage motivator, following his passing on Friday, after he suddenly collapsed during a live show.

Hey there, fellow gamers! I’ve got some sad news to share. Last Friday, during a performance in Connecticut, the legendary Fatman Scoop – or Isaac Freeman III as we know him off-stage – took a fall and couldn’t get back up. The next morning, his family confirmed the tragic news of his passing, but they didn’t disclose the reason behind it. It’s a tough loss for the music community, and my thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

On Instagram, Questlove paid a heartfelt homage to DJ Fatman Scoop by stating: “I’d like to express my gratitude for embodying the essence of hip hop. He helped us forget our worries and immerse ourselves fully in the here and now, filling our lives with happiness.”

He made the dedication “on behalf of” numerous groups, such as those who conceive after a festive evening at the club, all individuals capable of raising their hands, and every single DJ who boosted the music to create an instant energy surge from a 3 to far beyond a spinal tap 11.

Missy Elliott, who teamed up with Freeman on “Lose Control” in 2005 and earned a Grammy for it, paid tribute to the late DJ by offering prayers for strength to Fatman Scoop’s family during this tough period.

“For more than two decades, Fatman Scoop’s voice and energy have brought joy and made people want to dance in countless songs. His influence is massive and will forever be remembered, as noted by Elliott.”

Ludacris stated that “Scoop was a person who embodied the essence of what love truly represents. Love, for him, wasn’t just an emotion, but something you actively showed. His actions were a testament to his profound passion for hip hop. Everyone he interacted with felt this genuine love and passion. This is the kind of legacy we should all strive to uphold, from now until eternity.”

DJ D-Nice paid his respects, expressing that he was consistently considerate towards him. This is a significant loss not only for him but for the entire cultural scene. My sympathies go out to all those who were close to him.

Freeman gained widespread recognition with his 1999 hit song “Be Faithful.” He also made an appearance on Missy Elliott’s 2005 track “Lose Control,” which earned him a Grammy. In the same year, he was featured in Mariah Carey’s song “It’s Like That” as well.

On a Friday morning, Freeman and Dyce Payso unveiled the official video of their latest track, “Let It Go.” After Freeman’s unfortunate demise, Payso expressed his deep feelings on Instagram, saying he was left speechless.

“It’s only been a couple of weeks since we filmed our video together. You mentioned you would come especially for me, and reflecting on it now, I’m incredibly grateful that we shared that time and created something extraordinary and wild. Thank you for being my friend, mentor, and a big brother in the music industry. This is my biggest record yet, and I’m deeply honored and thankful that you were a part of it. These memories with you are priceless and will be treasured forever. I promise to keep your legacy alive. Rest In Peace, Fatman Scoop.”

Freeman was often called “an shining spirit, a guiding light both on and off stage,” not just for his exceptional talent as a “top-tier performer,” but also because he was a “father, sibling, uncle, and companion.”

“He brought laughter and steadfast support to our lives, always showing courage and resilience,” they went on. “FatMan Scoop, to the world, was the undeniable voice of the club, his music inspiring us to dance and live with optimism. His happiness was contagious, and the kindness he shared generously will be dearly missed yet never forgotten.”
