As a long-time fan of Isla Fisher, I can’t help but admire her dedication and creativity when it comes to her craft. In “Wedding Crashers,” she brilliantly portrayed Gloria Cleary, a character that was as outrageous as they come, thanks in part to her bold decision to use body doubles for certain scenes.

In the movie, it was revealed that Fisher, who portrayed the flamboyant character Gloria Cleary alongside Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, and Owen Wilson, employed several stand-ins for more explicit scenes in the R-rated comedy. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2009 while promoting her film “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” Fisher disclosed that she even utilized a hand double for a scene where Gloria displays affection with her new beau Jeremy Grey (Vaughn) during a family dinner.
Fisher explained that she didn’t select her own doubles, but instead used three different ones. For the under-the-table scene, she employed a hand double. For instances where her character’s breast was in the frame, a breast double was utilized. Lastly, for scenes involving her backside, another double was hired. It’s possible that these roles were filled by the same individual.
As a gamer putting forth my thoughts, let me clarify why I advocated for a double in this game. Basically, my reasoning was, if a character’s chest is exposed, she loses her comedic appeal. Instead of finding her amusing, players tend to perceive her as more sensual. Regrettably, I didn’t manage to convince the producers on this point. In fact, they seemed intent on having her appear nude in about five different scenes, as far as I can tell.

As a gamer diving headfirst into my role, I decided it was time to let my creativity take the reins without any backup. From thereon, I cranked up Gloria’s character to the max, pushing her over-the-top and zany, ensuring laughter would never fade. “I simply stopped engaging in discussions about my performance,” I shared, probably hinting at the creative crew helmed by director David Dobkin. “I ratcheted up the realism of my character even more. In response to the prospect of showing her boobs, I aimed to make her even more outrageous, ensuring we’d still be left in stitches.”
This makes sense, and you can certainly see the result in the movie. Fisher’s Gloria is absolutely bonkers, whether she’s lying to Jeremy and pretending she’s a virgin (she’s not) or telling him that he can’t run away because she’ll just find him. (One could actually argue that Fisher and the film both took a scene where she sexually assaults Jeremy way too far.) That extremely questionable scene aside, Fisher is undeniably a hilarious standout, and she took her performance to new heights just to make sure that Gloria wasn’t a one-dimensional character.
