Crawl's Director Is Thrilled To Make Crawl 2 Because He’s Never Stopped Working On The First Movie In His Head

As a seasoned gamer with years of immersion in various virtual realms and countless hours spent navigating through terrifying terrains, I can confidently say that the announcement of Crawl 2 has sent shivers down my digital spine! Having survived numerous encounters with vicious creatures and treacherous environments, I’ve developed a keen eye for quality horror content.

As we move into September, the unofficial start of “scary season”, horror movie enthusiasts have even more reasons to be thrilled. Apart from the numerous chilling films scheduled for release over the next few weeks, there are also several eagerly awaited fright-fests on the horizon. One such project is the upcoming sequel to “Crawl“, which was recently announced, and it’s not just a captivating plot that has fans intrigued, but also a director who has been meticulously planning this project for the past five years.

Following the success of “Crawl”, one of 2019’s top horror films, director Alexandre Aja returns for “Crawl 2”. During a recent interview at the LA press junket for his latest film, “Never Let Go”, Aja expressed enthusiasm for the sequel. When I inquired about what he looks forward to delving into with the sequel that he didn’t have the chance to in the original gator-infested horror, Aja disclosed that he is overflowing with ideas because he often continues working on his films post-release.

There are numerous aspects of the film that I believe could be expanded upon further. An unusual occurrence happens to me after watching a movie; I seem to carry on with the storyline, even though it has ended. Regrettably, there’s nothing more I can do about it, but I find myself saying, ‘What a fantastic setting for that scene!’ Only to realize, ‘But the film is already complete!’ Still, I keep searching for alternative settings.

It’s often a shared challenge for creative minds: coming up with fantastic ideas for a project after it has already been completed. However, there’s good news – sequels provide us with a fresh platform where these ideas can be utilized, and they open doors for further investigation as well.

In an interview, Alexandre Aja mentioned that after working on the film Crawl, he’s been noticing various footage of natural disasters which spark ideas for potential action sequences. He intends to incorporate these concepts into Crawl 2. Aja stated this in his words.

With the release of Crawl, it seems as though the unfortunate reality of storms and hurricanes has persisted in real life. Constantly seeing such devastating footage on TV makes me ponder various scenarios, different setups, and alternative options that could create a riveting, edge-of-your-seat survival storyline for Crawl. I’m eager to revisit these ideas on screen and once again don my wetsuit.

Previously, sequels like “The Hills Have Eyes 2” in 2007 and “Piranha 3DD” in 2012 have been made from Alexandre Aja’s films. However, “Crawl 2” will be a unique case as it will be the first time he is directing a sequel of one of his own movies. At present, Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan are writing the script, with horror icon Sam Raimi, who was also involved in the initial film production, co-producing this project alongside Aja.

The second installment of “Crawl” hasn’t set a release date as of now, but filming is planned for autumn. Notably, the storyline will shift from its original setting in Florida to the bustling cityscape of New York City.
