Ahsoka Star Hints Fans Might Be Waiting a While For Season 2

Ahsoka Star Hints Fans Might Be Waiting a While For Season 2

As a long-time Star Wars fan who grew up with Ahsoka Tano from Clone Wars to Rebels, I must say I’m torn between excitement and impatience regarding the news about Ahsoka Season 2. On one hand, I’m thrilled to see my favorite characters return to our screens, especially Sabine Wren, portrayed brilliantly by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. On the other, three more years of waiting? The Force will be strong with me if that’s how long it takes!

Fans of “Star Wars” are still recovering from Disney’s announcement to scrap “The Acolyte”, and things seem to be getting worse as it appears that the second season of “Ahsoka” won’t be back anytime soon, according to one of the series actors. The second season of “Ahsoka” premiered on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, but instead of being a miniseries as initially marketed, it turned out to be the first part of a larger story, with Season 2 promised shortly after the finale aired. For many fans, “Ahsoka” wasn’t just a continuation of Ahsoka Tano’s character from “The Mandalorian”, but also felt like the live-action debut of characters such as Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren – much like the fifth season of “Star Wars: Rebels”.

Actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo, known for her role as Sabrine Wren, recently visited Dragon Con and shared insights about the progress of Ahsoka Season 2. Via MandoVerse Updates on X/Twitter, Bordizzo revealed that filming for Ahsoka Season 2 is planned for Summer 2025. This implies that fans may not see this season on Disney+ until 2026, a three-year gap since the finale of Ahsoka Season 1 left viewers hanging with a significant cliffhanger: both Ahsoka and Sabrine Wren were stranded on planet Peridea in another galaxy, while Grand Admiral Thrawn made his grand comeback to the main Star Wars galaxy.

It’s unfortunate but understandable that Ahsoka Season 2 won’t premiere until 2026, given the long gaps between seasons in the era of streaming. Nevertheless, Star Wars enthusiasts have plenty to anticipate in the interim. In December, a new addition to the franchise will be released: Skeleton Crew. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s corner of the franchise will continue with this release. By 2025, Andor will return for its second and final season, following a similar three-year gap as Ahsoka. Additionally, in 2025, Andor will conclude its story arc with Season 2.

If Ahsoka’s second season debuts in 2026, it could potentially be released after Star Wars makes a comeback on the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is scheduled to open in theaters on May 22, 2026. Given this timing, Disney might choose to air Ahsoka sometime later in the summer or even during the holiday season. Since The Force Awakens premiered in December 2015, Star Wars has been focusing on releases around the holiday season, from films like Rogue One, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker to television series like The Mandalorian’s second season airing its finale close to Christmas. Even Skeleton Crew is planned for a holiday-centric release window.

In all likelihood, the second season of ‘Ahsoka’ will play a significant role in establishing the plot for an upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movie directed by Dave Filoni. This film is expected to serve as a semi-sequel to ‘The Mandalorian’ and Grogu, with hints suggesting it will be a grand crossover event involving Disney+ series such as ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, and ‘Ahsoka’. If this movie relies on the plot details set up in ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, then it may occupy the December 17, 2027 release date that Lucasfilm has reserved for a film, or it could even be released in 2028.
