Pharrell Is Now a LEGO Designer, Debuting His ‘Over the Moon’ Spaceship Set

As a longtime fan of Pharrell Williams, I’ve always admired his versatility and creativity across various fields. His latest venture into LEGO set design with “Over the Moon” is nothing short of breathtaking!

Pharrell Williams has an established reputation in fashion, music, and skincare; now, he’s also designing LEGO sets, expanding his impressive portfolio

Pharrell collaborated with LEGO to create a unique LEGO spacecraft model called “Over the Moon.” Over the span of many months, this project was brainstormed and developed in conjunction with LEGO’s design team, resulting in numerous creative suggestions from both parties

They descended onto a spaceship adorned with gold and black, soaring upwards, and trailing a rainbow-hued vapor trail behind it. The entire collection consists of 966 parts, featuring 51 distinct minifigure heads, with the design team stating that the trickiest aspect was determining the correct angle for the vapor trail to ensure stability as well as an energetic appearance

Pharrell has a deep history with LEGOs. In fact, film director Morgan Neville filmed Pharrell’s own documentary, titled “Piece by Piece“, entirely using a LEGO camera. Furthermore, Pharrell’s creative process for this project was inspired by the planes of the Air Force that he used to see flying near his childhood home

As a child, Pharrell’s understanding of the world revolved around an area of about 20 miles, with Atlantis Apartments at its center. Situated within this zone was an Air Force Base where the Blue Angels frequently flew. Therefore, his perspective on looking up was constantly influenced by jets. When considering what goes the highest, he thought of space shuttles

I hail from an era where humanity’s fascination revolved around the cosmos, technology, and eventually, rocket propulsion. As a child, the space shuttle was perceived as a vehicle capable of transporting us not just away from our current location, but all the way to the Moon

Pharrell’s Over the Moon set is available for pre-order now for $109.99 USD on the LEGO website.
