It remains uncertain which of these aspects will be incorporated into Ortega’s adaptation. However, a screenplay for the project has already been drafted by Giovanni M. Porta, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry known for his roles as writer, producer, and actor on Paramount+’s “At Midnight,” featuring Diego Boneta.

According to The DisInsider, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming project, as it’s hoped that Kenny Ortega will turn his Phantom into a franchise similar to Descendants or High School Musical. If the adaptation is successful, Ortega – with over half a century of directing and production experience – seems perfectly suited for the task. His recent work includes numerous hit Disney franchises, but he’s also known for his roles as director, producer, and choreographer on iconic films like Dirty Dancing, Newsies, and Hocus Pocus. A film adaptation bearing the same name hit theaters in 2004, serving as a devoted tribute to the Broadway musical. Gerard Butler played the enigmatic Phantom, while Emmy Rossum brought Christine Daaé to life on screen.

In a youth-oriented adaptation of “Phantom,” Ortega will likely introduce some significant alterations due to its focus on younger audiences. For instance, original music and choreography could be incorporated, given Ortega’s past accomplishments.
