Dave Bautista Says The Last Showgirl’s Jamie Lee Curtis Left Him Starstruck

Dave Bautista Says The Last Showgirl's Jamie Lee Curtis Left Him Starstruck

As a fervent fan of both cinema and the enigmatic world of Hollywood, I must say that my admiration for Dave Bautista has only grown stronger after learning about his humble beginnings and starstruck encounter with the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis. It’s fascinating to see how someone who once worked as a bouncer in his hometown is now gracing our screens alongside some of the biggest names in the industry.

In his acting career spanning Hollywood’s elite, Dune star Dave Bautista has only experienced being starstruck once. This extraordinary encounter took place in the 1990s when the wrestler-turned-actor was still working as a bouncer in his hometown. The actress who left Bautista speechless and wandering aimlessly was none other than Jamie Lee Curtis; today, they share the screen in Gia Coppola’s film, “The Last Showgirl.” During an interview with the press on the Toronto International Film Festival red carpet (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter), Bautista reminisced about his first encounter with Curtis:

I was in Washington D.C., feeling quite energetic yet unstable, when it started raining. My ride dropped me off at a convenience store, and as I dashed inside to escape the rain, I almost collided with a woman. Upon looking up, I realized it was Jamie Lee Curtis! I was left speechless by the encounter; I was utterly starstruck. Instead of engaging her, I simply walked around aimlessly inside the store.

Curtis’ multifaceted decades-long career dates back to her breakout role as final girl Laurie Strode in 1978’s Halloween. Through the 1980s, she garnered acclaim for her work on Trading Places and A Fish Called Wanda. Her success continued into the 1990s and beyond, with roles in projects including True Lies, Freaky Friday, and Scream Queens. There’s also her recent Academy Award-winning performance in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All At Once. Given his first run-in with Curtis and her impressive (and ongoing) body of work in the industry, it’s easy to understand why Bautista would say working with her in The Last Showgirl was “intimidating.”

Praise for Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl

Apart from praising the movie’s cast, Curtis has particularly acknowledged Pamela Anderson for her outstanding performance in the film. In ‘The Last Showgirl’, Pamela portrays Shelley, a long-standing showgirl who is compelled to reconsider her future when her show unexpectedly shuts down following a 30-year run. Curtis expressed his admiration for Anderson, describing her as an extraordinary being, both intelligent and spiritually profound. He further added that she is stunningly beautiful!

She’s been completely open about the way society has dealt with her. I’m hoping that once everyone watches the film, there will be a fresh understanding and admiration for her abilities.

The film titled “The Last Showgirl” made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6. Although the number of reviews is still small, they suggest a remarkable performance. Moreover, Curtis isn’t the only one expressing admiration for Anderson. Exclaim asserts that we are experiencing a new era, which they call “Pamaissance,” while IndieWire’s review echoes similar praise.

Anderson’s final performance, ‘The Last Showgirl’, offers an opportunity for her to display her profound emotional depth and vulnerability. It could potentially mark the beginning of a fresh acting chapter for her.

The exact launch date for “The Last Showgirl” is still unknown, however, you can catch Bautista in the upcoming action thriller titled “The Killer’s Game“. This movie will hit the cinemas on September 13th.
