'It's Not Okay': The Boys' Valorie Curry Calls Out Fans For 'Repeatedly' Making Her Uncomfortable With Firecracker-Related Demands

As a gamer with years of experience attending conventions and engaging with fellow fans, I find it disheartening to learn about Valorie Curry‘s unpleasant encounter at a recent comic-con event. It’s essential for us, as enthusiasts, to remember that our idols are people first and foremost, and they deserve the same respect we would expect in everyday life.

Despite The Boys‘ explosive Season 4 finale airing in mid-July, its viewership didn’t wane promptly. In fact, it continued to be the most-watched series on Prime Video for weeks following its release. Regrettably, devoted fanbases don’t always display commendable and respectful conduct, a fact that Valorie Curry, one of the show’s stars, experienced during a weekend convention when she encountered some challenging situations.

With fans waiting for The Boys Season 5 to arrive on the 2025 TV schedule (or perhaps somewhere after that), Curry was busy promoting the Amazon MGM series at an Irish convention. But that experience was tainted in part by at least one pair of fans whom she claims demanded her to do things related to her character Firecracker’s sordid actions in her first season. The actress took to Instagram to share a handful of Stories clips that called out the aggressive fans, while also praising everyone who was cordial and polite. As she put it:

I’ve returned from the inaugural day of Comic-Con held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and overall, everyone was amazing. This is my first time attending these events independently, and I must say that most people have been incredibly kind and delightful. The experience has been truly wonderful! However, it’s essential to discuss boundaries and what is appropriate when interacting with others. Some may remember the intense actions of a character I portrayed on ‘The Boys’, but please understand that it’s inappropriate and not funny to expect such behavior from me in person at my booth. It’s not acceptable.

Curry chooses not to provide a comprehensive account of the specific events, which could be due to several reasons. One possibility is that she aimed to avoid highlighting the offenders, thus preventing them from being recognized and harassed by commenters. Another likelihood is that she opted against describing their actions to prevent inciting future trolling behavior.

Given all that, it’s not hard to surmise what those specific fans were inquiring about her, especially for anyone who followed the entire series. Firecracker’s affection for Homelander became quite unsettling as his breast milk fetish emerged, and she showed a concerning readiness to harm herself with medications to maintain her ability to produce it for him continuously.

Valorie Curry went on to explain that the disrespectful actions persisted, despite her making it abundantly clear through her expressions that she was far from entertained. To put it in her own terms, she had communicated that she found it unacceptable and yet, the behavior remained.

To put it simply, I had clearly communicated that the repeated actions were unacceptable today, yet they appeared to become more agitated instead. I found it surprising that an explanation was necessary, as my discomfort was evident. However, I felt uneasy about the situation.

As a gamer, I’ve come across some weird warnings on products that were obviously there due to past users’ mistakes. It seems like event organizers might soon have to issue clear guidelines asking attendees not to disrespect or harass others, whether they’re fellow fans or celebrities. Here’s crossing my fingers that basic human decency and respect will be the rule, rather than an exception.

Curry elaborated further on her unease, pointing out that fans found their behavior amusing, even though there seemed to be little humor in the situation around them.

I truly cherish the opportunity to interact with fans about the roles I’ve played, and honestly, I find it incredibly enjoyable. However, if people continue to behave in this manner, it becomes quite uncomfortable for me – something I believe you should be aware of, as most others understand this too. To reiterate, I don’t know what kind of response you anticipated; there was no laughter involved.

We can only hope that fans aren’t also bringing live octopuses to conventions in order to demand that Chace Crawford make love to any of them. Which sounds like a joke, but at this point is probably closer to reality than I’d be comfortable admitting.

It isn’t certain yet when production for The Boys Season 5 will commence, but I wouldn’t be shocked if creator Eric Kripke subtly criticizes such fan actions in the approaching episodes (or perhaps even in Gen V Season 2). In the meantime, keep an eye on what’s making it onto TV schedules for 2024!
