Susan Sarandon Shares Sweet Message After Reuniting With Kevin Costner So Many Years After Bull Durham

As a die-hard sports fan and movie enthusiast who vividly remembers the magic of the 80s and 90s, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia seeing Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner reunite after all these years. Their chemistry in Bull Durham was electric, and watching them onscreen felt like a breath of fresh air during those times. It’s a bit like finding an old baseball glove you used to play with – the memories flood back, and for a moment, you feel young again.

During this special time of year, when the NFL’s comeback coincides with the final stretch of Major League Baseball’s regular season, sports enthusiasts are in for a treat. Even beyond this period, there’s an abundance of fantastic sports movies to keep the excitement alive all year round. One timeless baseball movie is Ron Shelton’s “Bull Durham”, featuring stars Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner who recently reunited 36 years after its initial release in cinemas.

It’s not surprising that the two renowned Hollywood figures didn’t collaborate in America’s favorite sport, but instead, they came together for a worthy cause linked to the Better World Fund, a nonprofit organization focused on cinema. This event coincided with the Venice Film Festival, and both Sarandon and Costner were honored guests. It seems they had some time to reminisce, among numerous photo opportunities and increased publicity.

Susan Sarandon shared her appreciation for the nonprofit on Instagram while also voicing her appreciation to talk to her Bull Durham co-star. As she put it:

It’s truly an honor to get an award from the outstanding Better World Fund organization. Additionally, it was a delightful bonus to spend time with fellow honoree and dear friend Kevin Costner. I can hardly wait for the premiere of Horizon American Saga 2 tomorrow! 💖

The Academy Award-winning actress, without mentioning her 1988 romantic comedy with Costner, instead acknowledged the world premiere of the second part of his western series “Horizon: An American Saga,” which had its release date postponed due to the poor box office performance of the first film. Yet, he remains enthusiastic about the next two planned films in the series.

Contrarily, it seems unlikely that we’ll get a broader “Bull Durham” universe with numerous sequels, even though it could be intriguing to revisit these characters. For now, enthusiasts can only revive their passion by re-watching the romantic interplay between Crash Davis and Annie Savoy.

Kevin Costner also shared a pic on his Instagram page from his reunion with Sarandon (as well as a shot from their Bull Durham days), saying this in his caption:

It’s always wonderful reconnecting with an old acquaintance, SusanSarandon! Time sure has flown since our days in Bull Durham – we’ve traveled quite a distance together.

Better World Fund and Studio Mao also shared a video from the event, as seen below.

It’s amazing that these two iconic figures haven’t collaborated since “Bull Durham” all these years. Susan Sarandon’s series “Monarch” appeared to draw inspiration from Kevin Costner’s “Yellowstone,” but unfortunately, her show was terminated, and he’s no longer associated with that franchise. Perhaps they’ll work together again in a movie or TV show someday.

Among numerous impressive films available on Pluto TV, Tubi, and MGM+, “Bull Durham” is one such gem. Costner’s remarkable performance in this movie nearly prevented him from appearing in “Field of Dreams”, but let’s save that tale for another time.
